SLC Punk - Liquor Store Scene |

Quoted: Ohio has state alcohol sales too I think. Sounds weird. View Quote The state controls it, but they don't retail it like in the old days. The big grocery chains bought up most of the liquor licenses. Free standing liquor stores are getting rare. Beer, you can buy anywhere. PA is just strange. In WV, some drug stores sell liquor. |

Quoted: As if being from Vegas is the true path to enlightenment. View Quote At least in Vegas one is treated like a fucking adult, with adult laws. TN has fucked up laws too, don't get me wrong. We have two separate boards, one for liquor (state) & one for beer (local). Only one distributorship per owner, please. IOW, you cannot own more than one distributorship. Why? No one seems to fucking know. You can own multiple bars, multiple restaurants, gun shops, etc but only ONE distributorship. But I tip my hat to Vegas on their liquor laws there. |

Damn, and I thought ND's booze laws were annoying.
Basically just can't sell before 11 on Sunday, and if you're a grocery store or gas station it has to be rung up in a separate area. |

Quoted: When I lived in DC / NOVA, VA had those state run liquor stores...... Kinda had the feel of (what I imagine) an early 1980's Soviet liquor store must have been like. https://www.abc.virginia.gov/library/stores2/store178_dillwyn.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: When I lived in DC / NOVA, VA had those state run liquor stores...... Edit: Could be worse though. At least VA isn't PA. THIS VA is weird with liquor, and alcohol in general. ABC stores carry nothing except liquor, but you can buy beer and/ or wine at Walgreens, CVS and 7-11. The fact that there is no commonality in what each ABC carries (and local stuff is rarely offered) adds to it. Jealous of other states where Costco sells spirits. The one in DC does, but fuck going to DC, let alone a DC Costco. When I lived in MA - their blue laws were even more retarded. All alcohol was bought at “Packies” (Package Stores), although everyone I knew just called it “thelickastoah”. They weren’t state run, like ABC, but were private businesses and they were the only places to buy alcohol - well, beer and liquor at least (don’t remember about wine - I didn’t They were all closed on Sundays. This simply led people to just drive further north to NH, which had a big state store literally yards over the state border, with its own exit off of the highway. Just before I moved to VA, somebody in the MA statehouse finally realized that the Puritans weren’t stopping people from buying/ consuming alcohol on Sunday, but instead just driving them to NH. So they did what MA lawmakers do - they got even more retarded, and instead of lifting the law, they altered it to allow Packies that were within 5 miles (maybe it was 10?) of the NH border could open on Sunday’s, but only for like 4-5 hours and they had other restrictions that I don’t remember. Just looking to keep that tax revenue in state - they gave fuck all about the other private run stores that didn’t live on the MA/ NH line. Haven’t bought alcohol up there in a while, so not sure what’s changed. But it was fucked up back then. |

I don't drink so this doesn't effect me.
But nice thread though. |

Quoted: Does ohio still have that weird max percentage law? It was bizarre going there from Michigan, and only being able to get like 27% vodka. View Quote I can walk into Kroger and buy whatever I want so no idea what you're talking about. Unless this is some law from 1973 in the olden days. |

WV just started selling liquor in Sunday’s but only after 1 PM
EXCEPT ON CHRISTMAS OR EASTER. My Irish Catholic wife curses every time we want something outside those times lol. |
|
The selection at a VA ABC store is shit. The bourbon section of a good liquor store back home in TN is bigger than an entire VA ABC store.
|

Also beer sold in stores and gas stations have to be below 4% abv. If you want stronger beer you have to go to a bar or restaurant.
Have fun with all the homeless people. |

I can't afford to drink, all my money is spent on ammo
These "my state is better than your state" threads are great. They keep all the morons out of here so I can enjoy the state I live in |

Just for the record, cold beer is sold at just about every gas station and grocery store in Utah. And they got rid of the 3.2 stuff as well a year or so ago.

I've been to a Utah state liquor store once or twice before.
It's just part of life here, no biggie... |

Quoted: Things I learned: They cannot sell real beer cold Prices are fucking insane They cannot sell 1.5oz single serve shots A security guard up front runs the entire operation Being from Las Vegas, the whole thing is confusing and retarded White stuff is falling from the sky and no one seems to care Currently sitting in a hotel room waiting for my beer to cool down in an ice bucket. View Quote Of course OP, it bunches up the magic underwear...... I kid Mormons, I kid....I have nothin' but love for ya. The blue laws are off the hook for sure. |

I can't speak to liquor/wine because that's not my thing. But for all the flack that UT catches...my wife and I consider it to treat to hit the SLC state liquor stores for beer whenever we head south.
That's how limited our beer choices are in this part of MT. Glad the pink stickers are gone though... |
|
Here in Oregon the state controls and runs all liquor stores, you can only buy liquor in these stores.
But you can buy beer and wine anywhere. I hate my state. |

Moving from GA to UT was one of the best moves I have ever made in my life. I don’t miss the state AT ALL. Keep the humidity, fucking weeks and weeks of nothing but rain, just HOT and humid as fuck most of the year. I am from GA and I have no plans to return. Enjoy Stacy Abrams, and the rest of the corruption.
Sure we have Pierre Dilecto but I didn’t vote for him. I’ll tolerate him and enjoy this awesome state. Attached File |

Even Texas has it's share of 'blue laws' still in force. Private owned liquor stores, but no Sunday sales and they have to close at 9PM, but you can go to a bar on Sunday and get a drink and drink booze until closing every night.
I know a lot of counties in Texas used to be 'dry', but I don't know if there are still dry counties here or not. When I was growing up in KY most of the state was 'dry'. Only a few counties opposite the larger cities on the border allowed alcohol sales and no sales on Sunday. Across the river in Indiana the bars could be open on Sunday, but no carry out beer sales on Sunday. If we ran out of beer, we either had to go over to a bar in IN or drive like 60 miles to Shawneetown, IL. They had Sunday sales carry out for beer and the bars sold liquor by the drink. I'm not sure if KY still has any 'dry counties' but a bunch of them had gone wet last time I was up that way. Utah is still the 'champion of fucked up liquor laws' state...and I've been assured it's better than it was there 25 years ago when I was running a Supper Club in SLC. My servers couldn't ask a guest if they'd like a cocktail before dinner...they had to specifically phrase the question as: "Would you care for an Adult Beverage before dinner". No shit...you could get jacked up by UTABC for using the wrong phraseology. |

I was looking to drop retirement papers in a year or two and move out there. It seems like any acreage is pretty pricey, though.
