Issue is that turnover is very real in these units a lot of guys/gals have been getting there time in and getting out in 8 years. What most don't realize is when a NG unit deploys in a state with multiple BCTs there is no guarantee you will be going with your home unit especially if your in a "needed" MOS in another. That doesn't really help moral and retention does it? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: I've noticed so many slick sleeves, don't troops deploy anymore? Where are the deployment patches? Four years of relative peace. Four years is around 1/5th of a career, so most of the Private through Specialists/Corporal-types in the Guard have never deployed overseas. Orange Man reduced overall OPTEMPO, therefore, the requirement for repeated Guard overseas deployment has mostly gone away. The days when 3/4s of the formation in "frequent flyer" guard units like the 37th Brigade, 53rd Brigade and the 34th Division had combat patches are (for now), in the past. the 28th still has quite a bit of ongoing of deployments, not necessarily "patch" deployments. 2 yrs ago there was a KFOR rotation, Sinai, and I believe the 28th ECAB is forward right now. That doesn't really help moral and retention does it? I don't disagree; I know the Florida bubbas did a few Africa rotations in recent memory, and I know the PA guys have to work to get lost in Kosovo, as some of the Staff Sergeants and above have three tours in KFOR. I am also aware of some of the ongoing Guard domestic missions, some of which have been going on since 9/11. Having said all that, Obama began the practice of sending AD units to designated combat zones and backfilling the non-"combat" missions with Guard units. To the best of my knowledge, the last big National Guard Brigade-level (at least intentional) Combat Deployment was in the 2010-2011 time period, hence the lack of Combat Patches. |

While I tend to agree with about 99% of what you post in GD, I think you are being a little melodramatic in this case since "physically doing stuff" hasn't really amounted to much other than being there. On principle, I don't agree with the reasons behind the deployment since I despise dimocRats and the thinking behind everything they do. OTOH, I'm not sure this is something to get worked up over. Nothing happened and the Guardsmen weren't really armed unless you consider carrying an expensive club made by Colt being "armed". According to Fadedsun, demonstrations still took place. Call it a polite difference in opinion. |

Quoted: Thousands of National Guardsmen were forced to vacate congressional grounds on Thursday and are now taking their rest breaks outside and in nearby parking garages, after two weeks of sleepless nights protecting the nation’s capital in the wake of the violent Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. One unit, which had been resting in the Dirksen Senate Office building, was abruptly told to vacate the facility on Thursday, according to one Guardsman. The group was forced to rest in a nearby parking garage without internet reception, with just one electrical outlet, and one bathroom with two stalls for 5,000 troops, the person said. “Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” the Guardsman said. Linky Thing MORE INFORMATION According to a source, Rep. Will Keating (D-MA) reported to the Capitol building authorities earlier in the day that a National Guardsman was seen in a Dunkin Donuts without a mask on. After Keating commented out loud that masks were required to be worn at all times in a federal building, the National Guard member responded, “I appreciate my freedom,” according to the source. National Guard commanders are now looking for the National Guard member, according to the source. Link View Quote no internet, one outlet big deal however two shitters for 5,000 troops is UNSAT. |
