Backlog.  Happens from time to time.  During the initial COVID stuff it got bad and you had tankers and cruise ships anchored and waiting around all over the place; they'd sometimes come in so we could refuel them, and then they'd go right back out.  Traffic from other vessels dropped off a lot, though.  I hardly got to work any shifts during that time because of that.

Reminds me of the women insistent that there were chemtrails in her water just like Alex Jones said because water doesn't make a rainbow when it goes through a sprinkler! Note how no effort is given to fact checking (looking at marine traffic patterns) before taking to twitter to declare it's unusual and suspicious.

It's pretty embarrassing, honestly, to see how much of the Right, and how much of ARFCOM, has gone this route.  In some cases it can also make it hard to know what's true or not, like with the election fraud stuff.

There are always many container ships off port.  Ports are busy places, they prefer to work at capacity and not wait a day or two for the next scheduled ship.  I have seen dozens of tankers in que waiting for their port space as well.

Interesting.

My supply chain (consumer electronics) is utterly borked right now and manufacturer reps are warning us it is going to get even worse.

There is normally a very steady flow of them in/out of Long Beach. But not normal to have that many of them just kinda loitering there.

Not saying "OMG the Chinese are staging to invade", but it sure is odd. I think the person who mentioned tariffs may be somewhat accurate. Gonna hang back and wait until Xiden cancels them out.

Most of that stuff has already been invoiced. Not sure if tariffs are the issue.

My union, which is affiliated with them, normally would tell us (they even inform us about negotiations, or potential for stuff to happen).  I haven't heard anything.  At least for our side of the business, there's still work (ship assist, bunkering, lightering, and product transfers between terminals), although it's been slow enough to where my shifts are being cancelled, so I haven't come in during the past several days.  Last time I was there, everything seemed normal and I heard no chatter about anything about to happen.

Someone posted a video somewhere else, and it seemed to be more than usual based on what I've seen for this port.  But yes, there're usually ships anchored offshore or coming in and out.  Traffic and ships waiting are not unusual.  Common thing.

I don’t know what they make but it’s a lot. A relative of mine used to be the director for a number of apprenticeship programs covering souther California and Arizona. He could get me in any program I wanted except longshoreman. That side of my family has some pull in the trades out there and he couldn’t get himself in there if he wanted. This was mid 1990’s.

There are ALWAYS ships outside of the Port of Long Beach waiting to get in. Especially now since the port is running on roma staffing right now.

My supply chain at work is wrecked also, with some of the product literally sitting in those containers. We’ve got containerloads upon containerloads that were supposed to be delivered to the East Coast and Utah 2-3 months ago sitting off the port. It’s a nightmare.
