I guess I'm mediocre
At least I was trying to put something away while I was working, unlike many people. |

Quoted: If you’ve got more than a few thousand squirreled away AOC is gonna want to means-test you for SS View Quote 401k's are a show of 'whiteness', according to recent articles. You think the new 100%-in-power Communists will leave that alone? They will not remain unmolested, as it is not "fair" to those "left out" of capitalistic wealth growth, grasshopper. If your retirement is 10 years off or more, (like me) you'll likely be "fair shared" into the same financial boat as those who didn't put ANYTHING away, once the Communists take your retirement wealth and replace it with a promise to "take care of you, like everyone else". With the costs of Govt programs, giveaways, free-stuff-for-everyone, open borders -- that HUGE pile of citizen 401k's just sitting there, ripe for the taking, is just too irresistible. Relying on others to provide for your retirement is good shape? You're relying on others no matter what. Whats your plan ? Mutual Funds? Bonds? Options? Dividends ? How is that not relying on the decisions of others? OK , maybe your plan is just to save 2M and live off of the principal in your retirement years. Tell us how you accumulated the 2M. Unless you have one killer ass job that pays insane money enabling you to save 50G for 40years *OR* 40G for 50 years, you're probably going to use one of the financial tools I mentioned. Well look at that..... You're relying on others. |

Inflation is gonna eat it to nothing or the feds will just nationalize it. Either way, this whole "work to a set day then stop" that's gonna be a pipe dream for anybody not on a government pension.
Hooray for the boomers that got theirs, but for most people, you're probably better off enjoying hookers and blow today instead of worrying about your non existent retirement |

I absolutely do not have enough to withstand a communistic environment.

Net worth is roughly half that number.
Still owe on my house, which is my only real liability at this time. No car payments, no credit card debt, just utilities and mortgage. Retirement and savings have a ways to go before being close to $1MM, let alone 2. Mid-30's. |
|
|
So being mid-late 30’s, what should I have in my 401k/Roth IRA?

The swamp will do their best to make everyone into a welfare class by printing money to deflate the dollar and by a higher minimum wage to undermine the middle class.
Obumbo tried hard to do this. China+swamp did more in 2020 to further this end than 8 years of the crispy turd. |

My oncologists will retire well on my retirement savings and insurance reimbursements.

With two divorces under my belt, yeah, no.
I'll be working till I'm 75. |

Not bad, but it’d be nice if it was more.
I have done a great job of saving outside my -401(k)- retirement plan, though. My goal there is 10x my highest salary before I retire (pretty close). |

How can it exclude pensions and rental income? I decided a while back not to put all of my eggs in one basket. I don't really put much towards retirement.
Barring a change in life situation - which is extremely doubtful, though I guess not impossible - I don't plan on retiring. Because there exists that extremely slim chance, I still at least put something away, but it is not a focus. |

Currently over 3 mil in retirement. Was hoping for four more years of President Trump and then I would be golden. Now I don’t know.
|

Hell no
I think I have 100k maybe in a 401k Real estate thoigh?! I got dat |

I'm 27 so no. For my age? Yes my retirement is looking very good.

.gov is gonna kill all the patriots in the next few years, why would I be worried about retirement?
Look at where this world is going, don't need to be living in that by the time I get to that age, I can barely even imagine what an incredible shithole earth will be by then if it's still here. |

Yes we have over $2M in our combined retirement/investment accounts.
Wife and I are both in our mid 40s. |

I don't have nearly that much, but after three years of retirement I have more than I did when I retired. That includes paying cash for a new vehicle and not yet taking SS. So I guess I'm doing ok.

Living large here with a $50 savings bond that matures next year, and a 100 pack of small rifle primers. I should be good.

Not 2 million. But I live in rural Missouri. All I need is my own little mountain. I'm set.

Quoted: I'll be working on the day I die. View Quote In my opinion... That's one of the biggest lies young & middle aged folks tell themselves. You really think you're going to leave for work one morning, work all day, then drive yourself to the funeral home? Lay down in a casket you picked out years earlier and go to sleep? No fuss, no hassle. No inconvenience on your family? Or... wait, maybe you think you'll work full time well into your elderly years while your body & mind break down? Health issues popping up, old injuries resurfacing? Brother, you'd better change your way of thinking and start planning. |
