Boomers trying to blame millennials for their failing is funny.

When reality is boomers guided / marketed / told millennials what to do, what to buy, where to go, etc.

If I’m a failure in life with a 7+ Digit plus net worth, then I don’t want to be a success. At 35.

I’m just telling you the facts. Like it or not.

You’re a stereotypical boomer who won’t do research. Who immediately wants to say someone is whiny when they disagree with you.

A few years ago when I was in my mid to later 20's I was beating up on myself for only making $45,000 a year as a level II IT technician. My Dad (boomer) told me to take it easy on myself because the game has changed and has been rigged against the younger generations. When he was around the same age he was making the equivalent of $45,000 sweeping a shop floor at the local mill in the 70's.

grant to I'm a late boomer. Get it I kill myself.

But you are so wrong it's not funny. At 59 I'm considered a boomer. Did not know that.

I promise I've never bought a house for 25k and just retired from FRS not too long ago.

But you go on making excuses about an economy from the 40s, 50s ect. And use that a a an excuse for whatever. It makes you look real smart doing that. Grow the hell up

Where the fuck are you getting your cell service where you paying $150 a month for data? Most unlimited plans are like $60 max these days.

Maybe everyone should still be carrying around pagers?

How those multiple divorces treating you?

I already burried my dad. With my own money. I also got an end of life call in the middle of the night, because he had no end of life plans, even after 3 trips across the country to try to help him. He also wanted to be buried across the country in his hometown, which i made happen, because i love him and it was important to me that he rest where he wanted. I also had the privliege of calling both his parents, both his brothers, and both of my brothers to inform them of his passing.  I also got stuck with a home that was overbuilt in the neighborhood with a 30 year mortgage, and a brand new 55k car that was financed. It was built after he was diagnosed with cancer and given 6 months to live. I had to deal with his 6 ex wifes through two years of court processes over the 6k he had in the bank. He was terrified of his own mortality like almost every boomer i have ever met. He had made millions in his lifetime, and had absolutely 0 when he died besides his high school letermans jacket.

I have multiple friends who had to deal with similar.

I love and miss my Dad, but i would not wish that on any of my kids. I have planned accordingly, and im only 38.

Im glad you dont have kids either.

What? That's not a good plan? Well, ok. If they can't do that then they should get a college degree and they will make a lot more money in the long run after they start working in their field when they get out of college. They will have to pay off their debt, but it will pay off with a better job.

LOL, the Boomers brought this country to her knees.....
View Quote
Well, this is a fact, I'm afraid.
We worked hard, got ahead and like a bunch of total assholes, we shared that success with our kids.
Most of us tried to give them the things we couldn't afford while growing up.
We bought them cars when they turned 16--or if we weren't doing quite that well, maybe when they graduated high school.
We bought them the "right" clothes so their friends wouldn't look down on them.
We supported their every activity, from theatre to soccer to photography. We sent them to football camp and paid for their traveling sports teams.
We wanted them to have the advantage of college, so we paid for it--or at least for enough of it to enable them to go.
And yes, we gave them their magic new phones at least every few years, and we paid the monthly bill--probably even when they moved out.
We kept them on our health insurance for as long as we could so they could save money and maybe build a nest egg.

But the nest egg went to flat screen TVs and streaming services. To nicer cars than we drive. To the designer clothes we let them believe mattered. To all the "entitlements" they believe are their birthright.

Yep, we spoiled our kids, not accepting that when we spoiled enough of them, they'd become a whole damned voting block and a market big enough to sway industries and government.  That collective hot mess became a major force in our society and we all have to suffer the consequences.

No generation is perfect.
But we really fucked up.
I, for one, am truly sorry.

And the above is why I have no debt at my age and won't make any large purchases on credit. What I have I own free and clear. There will be no creditors knocking on the door for their cut of the pie.

On the plus side, a death cert and the vehicle returned is usually enough if it's been well taken care of and has low miles unless an estate is loaded. You can't get a dime from life insurance payouts and the largest asset is often the vehicle itself.

You're not kidding on this, it's been a generational thing [every one mentioned] to push satisfying your desires now and putting off your long term financial goals until later. Sometimes later never comes.............

boomers ruined the world. They were always trying to shave a corner every quarter, get people to work cheaper.
But the greatest generation always told them to get & show results.
so the boomers are running around saying they did everything right. we have no factories around the corner, cant build a fucking thing, but can get anything just in time from around the world.

I'm a tail-end boomer and bought my first house for $20k. I was 19, had been working for several years, and had saved $3k to put down.  I financed the rest at 13.75% on a 4 yr adjustable 30 yr mortgage.

I could afford it because the house had been gutted by fire.

I rented a dumpster and started pulling down and throwing out the interior. Paid an electrician to redo the wiring, but handled all the other labor myself, in the evenings. I worked in a lumber yard (13 days on, one day off) and got a discount on materials, which helped, also.
It took a few months before I could live in the place, and several more before I finished things well enough to rent out the upstairs apartment.
After a few years, the adjustable mortgage dropped to 12.25% and I was thrilled!

Still, I sold the place when I decided to join the Navy because the GI benefits were the only way I could see myself ever being able to afford college.
It worked.
I mean, I never got a job with an actual pension, but I have managed to put something into an IRA every month, and later into a 401K. My wife and I (the only wife I've had, incidentally) are on track to retire...modestly, but comfortably, I hope...in about another five years. (She's been nursing for nearly 40 years, so she's earned it.)

Yeah, life was good for us boomers. We had it easy.

Boomers started working at what.... 12?  Ask these millenials how early they started working. Hell, I'm not even a boomer, and I mowed lawns and had other part-time jobs at 13 or 14.   Gosh, when I was in college, I met people 2 years into it that still hadn't even decided what they wanted to study, let alone what field they wanted to work in.

Also, ask them what jobs they've taken to further their career.  Not as a job, but as a career.  I've always looked at jobs not just as "What does this pay?", but "Where can this take me in my career?".  I know a bunch of people that took jobs just to have jobs.  Sure, it gave them a paycheck... but it didn't further them in any way.

Years back, my wife and I had some friends who pulled the "I wish we could have a job that pays like your husband's, and we could have nice things like you" on us.  I smiled and told them "When you're 20 years into your career like I am, I'm sure you will."  They were utterly flabbergasted... they had no idea how someone my age at the time could have 20 years in their career.  They see a career as something you start after college, but I was started in my career well before I even went to college.

That's not to cast negativity on the entire generation... I know some millenials that make some awfully good money.  They just took their career seriously, whether that was through experience, education, or both.

Really?  No nursing, no medical, no engineering, no technical, no sales, no managerial?

Around here, hospitals will straight-up pay for your college to become a nurse, if you'll work for them for a few years.  And nursing can pay pretty darn well.  I have a bunch of engineer friends that make good money.  I know a bunch of technical people that make good money.  I know dentists that make good money.  I know sales people that make FANTASTIC money.  I know three public school teachers who took the time and effort to work up in their careers that are making six figures.

There are plenty of careers left in the US that pay good money, but they take more effort to get into and progress in than a job does.

There are no careers outside of the public sector left in the US. And all the boomers want to pay horrible wages and expect applicants to be extremely over qualified. They have no desire to train.

There's a little truth to that, but not necessarily absolute.   Like I said above, some careers will not only train, they'll pay for your college, too.

The job I have now... they won't train you for.  But that's because it takes decades of experience to be able to do the job I do now.  I started out in absolutely SHITTY jobs in my industry, worked my ass off, outperformed every team I was on, and moved up to some of the highest positions in the company... then I left, took a slightly better (and more difficult) job in another company, worked my ass off, and rose up.  I kept doing that over and over.  Each time, things got better, pay got better, etc..  Also, I really never took a job that i was fully qualified for... I always either charmed, impressed, or bluffed my way into jobs that were really above me... then I grew into them.

When I say I started in shitty jobs... I was EXTREMELY fit in my early 20's, and exercised for hours every day.  Still... I had legit high blood pressure, and they were talking about putting me on meds for it.  As soon as I left the job I had at the time... I've never had high blood pressure again in my life.  I put up with absolute bullshit from every end of it in order to work my way up.  Should it have to be that way?  Probably not.  But still, there are opportunities for people willing to work their way up.

I worked for a company for almost ten years, starting out part time, and then ultimately ending as a regional manager in charge of three states and over 300 employees, working on average 70 hours a week, with ever shrinking benefits and eventually stagnant wages.

That job went away when the boomer owners sold the company to an over seas investment company.

I now am self employed.

I worked for a company for almost ten years, starting out part time, and then ultimately ending as a regional manager in charge of three states and over 300 employees.

That job went away when the boomer owners sold the company to an over seas investment company.

I now am self employed.

Come work in the movies

Us millennials make good money

Coffee is now $4 a cup.

But let's talk about that a minute. Back in the mid 80s when boomers were millennial's age, the best coffee out there was Folders and it sucked. For $4 you get whip cream, chocolate sprinkles, flavor, gourmet roast, and a heck of a lot more of it. There was no such thing as 20 oz coffee, you got a Dixie cup.

That applies to everything. Can you name one thing that was better in 1985 than it is today? Cars, phones, computers, drugs, cancer treatments, microbrews, kale and quinoa, life expectancy, 401ks, everything that exists today that didn't even exist at all back then. Millenials have it a hundred times greater despite their huge debts and depression.

Go drink a cup of Folders and drive a car made in the early 80's and get back to me.

I bet they all have $1400 smart phones and $150 a month data plans.

Not everyone has a 1400 smart phone.

Not the point anyway, even if they did so what ? Luxuries change over time, people in the 1960s and 1970s spent more on other items.

It is pretty obvious people are worse off now, and that isn't all because of laziness or stupid degrees.

The policies of this country has sold out the future.

I'm doing pretty good for my area as a millennial.  That said, you're delusional if you think the current course is sustainable.   Shit costs a lot of money these days.  Even shitty houses cost a good amount.  I bought a very tiny condo a few years back for a "low" price.  My mortgage,  HOA, and utilities combined cost less than most people pay for their rent.  I think even my property value has gone up and there are no units for sale here any more either.  Good luck finding a job that pays "well" with realistic requirements.  There aren't a lot of $20hr+ jobs around here.  $20hr also isn't shit in this world. Renting a place costs a lot of money.  $500-750/mo for not a lot of house/apartment.  Many don't have down payments to buy a house.

The cause is irrelevant.   We are in the shit and it is going to get bad.  People have huge amounts of debt for sure.  I manage people that make $14-$22/hr.  They are definitely spending more than they make.  It will collapse eventually.

Boomers can eat a dick just because

I wish we had the interest rates 40 years as there are now. Its like borrowing money for free compared to what we had then, if you buy a modest home well below your means its so easy to pay off if married with 2 incomes.

I posted my story a while back in this thread and I feel I don't owe anyone anything and no one owes me anything...life is a deck of cards and you make the best of your hand.

Did those who survived the depression hate on those before them? did those in 1860 hate the 1840 generation? ....grow the fuck up and take responsibly...no one owes you shit. You earn what you have, end of story. Get out there, commit, marry, make a family and do what those for 5000 years before did. Stop beating off to porn and commit. Thats what is lacking.

I feel like I'm better off beating off to porn.  It's cheaper and less headaches.

My first studio apartment in CA cost me $1200 bucks a month in rent before utilities. That was in 2002. I was 18 y/o.

The ones who go into the trades are doing ok.

Most college degrees are worthless and overpriced.
