My kind of men right there as said above, men. My memories of deer camp days and nights, wooo man, that was fun. Growing up, going to camp on the weekends with the non-stop hunting, card games at night, the dogs. Then there was the skinning and cleaning deer and just the times we had. Wow. Those days are long gone in most of America, replaced by thin-skinned soymilk drinking assholes who want us in cages. Over my body.

Quoted: Got lots of family photos, and Super 8 film of the family and our yearly hunting camp up in the north woods. Texas deer hunters have traditionally been among the best citizens in the country. I was raised by some of them, and the lessons were bigger than those great deer camps. 100% this. I have some friends that have hunted Leaky for the last 30-40 years. Good country, though I have never been out there myself.

Quoted: Wonder if any of those older CJs are still around? View Quote I wondered that too. Salt-free area should help the preservation. Wonder if any are still in the family? First Jeep i had was a 1973 CJ-5 with a 232 ci I6. It would get stuck in 2wd on flat ground in the snow, but put it in 4wd it would climb a tree ?? |

I like the old photos. It's like looking back in time.
Based on the clothing and cars, I was reminded of the original Rambo, and a bunch of other 80s movies. No cell phones, no internet... |

The Letterman jacket looks like the colors for Roscoe ISD Plowboys.

Looks like the photos one of my friends showed me of his childhood hunting trips with his family.
Best part is all the Mexican uncles with their PTR-91's and SKS's. Great stuff |

Don't look any different than today other than the clothing. Less red flannel, more blaze orange these days.

Someday guys with phased plasma rifles will show pictures of us with 6.5 Creedmores and laugh and scream FUDDs

I was expecting to see a row of those itty bitty deer from out in west TX.
When we'd be quail hunting and 3 or 4 deer would jump/run through the sage brush my first thought was always, jackrabbit, till I realized they were really deer. |

Here's one a few years older.
Wife's people. Camp was in Michigan, her people all southern Ohio and KY Guy second from left was game warden. Her GPa second from right. Owned a bar. With a pet bear. That drank in the bar. LOL, people still talk about him in their hometown And he died in the 1940s! Attached File To the right was their converted bus/ camper. |
|
Heck, I could've been in that picture! LoL.
Sad thing is where those pics were taken is probably now a sub-division. |
|
I remember when all you had to wear was red...before blaze orange even existed and became required. I started hunting in 1976 when I turned 12....though my brother and I would sneak out and maybe hunt rabbit or squirrel when I was about 9. I would use a .22 or .410 (12 gauge had to much kick for my little skinny ass .

That's how deer camp was back in the day.
Half of those guys never uncased their guns the whole time. |

Quoted: Deer camp isn't the same anymore. Thanks to hunting shows and the culture it creates everyone is antler crazy now, takes all the fun out of camp when it turns into a job. View Quote Archery hunting took away a lot of it too. Now 3/4 of the deer hunters around here have their deer before the first snowflake lands before rifle season begins. They go out and sit in trees by themselves preseason. This IMO took a lot of the excitement and family gatherings out of it by making it a loner sport rather than a family event. |

Yelling at the sky about men these days bc of an online ad is boomer mental masturbation of the highest order. Might be fun, but unproductive at the end of the day. If your view of men sucks, you're probably hanging out with the wrong crowd. |

I wasn’t born till the mid 80s but just looking at pictures from my childhood in the late 80s and 90s it was the GOAT.
From cool ass stores, to movies, clothes. What a better time it was. I wish someone would tap you on the shoulder and tell you when you were in the good old days |

View Quote You can say that, I guess. But archery season is open for months and it gives people a lot of opportunity to get a deer rather than trying to fight the crowds for a week or two of gun season. We used to do a week of early season archery camp and a week of gun season because most of the states we hunted had multiple tags. Some places you could get 5-6 deer in a season. |

Didn't you read the caption? They're waiting. Must be some sort of blind/ambush setup. It's the 'olden days.' Back then the deer would just ramble up to the campfire and gut themselves.
