I have several questions. I picked up an old 22 long rifle single shot made by J Stevens Arms & Tool Co. The receiver says Crack Shot 26.
1) Is it worth anything?
2) It was all lightly rusted some light pitting, I stripped it and soaked it in Rustoleum Rust Stripper which worked great. My question is- Now what? It's down to bare metal, were they blued back then or just oiled?
3) The stock had someones name carved into the wood so I sanded it down to bare wood. Now what? What type of finish did it have originally?

They made 50 bazillion of those things.
I'm not sure what they are worth in original shape, but stripping it down and sanding on it probably cut that in half.

I probably shouldnt have asked what it was worth, I was just curious. The condition I recieved it was very poor so I figured I couldn't hurt it any worse. All the rust came off nicely along with everything else, I'm left with raw metal. Is this how they were or did I strip off any blueing that may have been under the rust?

I'm sniffing around also and not finding much on them.

Since you have removed any of the original finish and sanded the wood, any value it possibly had before is all gone now. But don't worry, it did not have much to begin with as one of the others said there were tons of these things made. Have it re-blued and the finish the stock and you have a shooter. You might want to re-crown the barrel as it is cheap and may make it shoot a bit better.

A friend of mine had one when I was a kid.
Refinished and fixed up it would be a blast to shoot colibri's in the back yard with one

That is what I figured to do (just have a plinked). I'm not familiar with rebluing, is this something I can do easily or do I have to send it out and spend a small fortune? How do I finish the stock? stain and poly or tung oil? What was standard back then?

Find a local gunsmith who does blueing, shouldn't be much. As for the stock, use whatever you got. I doubt that they had polyurethane back then. Try tung oil, it does not matter.

Can you ballpark what rebluing may cost?
