I do believe that dogs have souls. If you have ever had a dog that you truly cared about, you know how they think about you. They do show love toward those who treat them well. They know when you are feeling happy and when you are feeling sad. They are not just inanimate objects.

My neighbors back in Buffalo had the ghosts of a dog and a bunch of damn cats as well. Used to drive their Husky and Malamuet nuts.

One time one of the neighbors took a picture of the front of the house. In the front window was the two dogs and seven or so cats. And they used to find muddy paw prints in one of the back rooms that didn't belong to either dog (which you could tell easily, since their dogs left tracks that looked like bear prints, which leads to a story about a UPS guy who came and was afraid of them both. Pointed at the Husky and said "I know that one's a dog, but what kind of bear is the other one?").

90% of the "animal ghost" stories I've ever heard all refer to cats though. No idea why that is.

The dead are dead.

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6,10
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

In short, the dead do not walk the Earth.  I've never seen a "ghost", but have heard credible stories.  Let's see:  they're not living people.  They're not dead people.  Must be something besides people...<cough>familiar spirits</cough>

Wrong.

Many animals have bigger and better souls than some people.

The dead will walk the earth and it will happen very very soon.

Century 10 Quatrain 74
"The year of the great seventh number accomplished,
it will appear at the time of the games of slaughter,
not far from the age of the great millennium,
when the dead will come out of their graves."

Century 2, Quatrain 75
"The voice of the unusual bird is heard,
In the pipe of the breathing floor:
Bushels of wheat will rise so high,
That man will devour his fellow man."

I thought we already went over this(many 100's of times), a soul is just the life force that a being has, it's the "breath" so all things that are alive, animals, humans ,whatever have souls.  The "Spirit" is the "higher thinking" ability that only humans have, animals run on instinct. When something alive dies it goes back to the dust form which it was made, man, animal or whatever, it's dust when it dies and nothing more. So since nothing lives on after death there can be NO ghosts, end of story. Now can we get on with our lives.

Thats all well and good, but when I stare at a picture for a long time and then close my eyes I can still see the picture for a while.

Ok, I understand that, it's like the "energy" of the person persists because it was soaked into the suroundings. I've heard about that and it may or may not be true but either way IT IS NOT the person, it's just an energy image of them. This could account for "ghost" sightings. Most of them take place in the same area and the "ghosts" are doing the same thing each time, kind of like watching a movie of something that took place long ago. I'll buy that, energy could persist and that  would account for the stories.

I think it's time to coin a new term-"Persistant Energy Being", that would be closer to what a person would be seeing when they see a "ghost". A true "ghost" would be the acctual persons spirit, which isn't around anymore but maybe the energy of that person will persist after death and that's what they are really seeing, a PEB.
