This was taken from antoher board and I thought it was worth a look here.

I had to work out of town this afternoon and into tonight.  Sometimes my job requires odd hours.  Work went well and I was happy when I started for home, dreaming of the fireplace and warm coffee.

We had driven no more than a quarter of a mile when we came upon a head-on collision that had just happened.  People were running from their homes towards the cars.  A volunteer fireman arrived from the other direction seconds before us.  Within a couple of minutes, other volunteer firemen and rescue squad personnel began to arrive.

The marks showed that one vehicle had crossed the double-yellow lines to hit the other almost perfectly head on (the vehicles did not rotate after impact).

In a rare display of humanity in our modern world, the folks living there, white, black and hispanic, brought blankets from their trailers and houses to keep the injured warm and held the injureds' heads from moving.  They dialed whispered numbers of next-of-kin into cell phones with shakey hands, to let families know why their loved ones were not coming home.  With nothing else to offer, I held my flashlight on a cell phone for two pairs of shakey hands in the inky blackness.

When I left, a well-equipped rescue squad supported by a cadre of volunteer firemen was tending to the two adults and two children in the grass, still covered with inexpensive quilts.  Nearby, other rescuers were working to free the mother of the two children from the wreckage, where she remained pinned and in pain.

Tragic as the event was, I took great hope in the remarkable first-aid skills and kindness of ordinary people on a cold, dark night as I belatedly sipped my coffee by the fireplace.

Cyanide, why do you do this in almost every fucking post you happen to stink up? Can't you post one single positive thing...EVER? You completely amaze me as to how fucking negative you always are, it must be miserable around your house.

I've seen lot's of wrecks and plenty of people ALWAYS help! They do what they can to help within their means.

When people see other people suffering they have a tendancy that God built into humans to want to help. Many people will and have stopped to help strangers. This is one reason I don't bash the tree huggers too much, they are more misguided than anything else. They just like most of us don't like to see human suffering. The difference in us is that we know when some people have it coming and deserve it.

Gotta agree.. I've seen some horrible stuff happen both in my own neighborhood and in the surrounding areas, and I'm always more surprised at the humanity of the public than by their inattention.  During a recent personal catastrophe (almost lost the house) myself and my family were overwhelmed by the offers of help and comfort from people nearby we had never even taken the time to meet.  Perhaps Cyanide would slap on the blinders and pretend nothing was happening, but I have faith that there are still good souls out there.

Your right Winston I slammed those people in that video also, but it doesn't go on long enough to show who DID stop to help. I'm sure it was plenty of people. It is wild to see them going by but I have to consider the amount of time passed in the video. I would have slammed on the brakes and been on the phone calling 911 before running over with first aid, that would have taken at least 1 minute.

Added for the people who didn't or don't stop to help, I certainly hope somebody DOESN'T return the favor if you should ever need it.

Yep. Gotta go with my instinct, here. I see folks hurt, I have to help if I can and consequences (lawsuits, etc.) be damned. No way I'm passing someone in need of my help. It just isn't done and is  major bad form.

Last wreck I happened upon, I was in the first car there, before the wheels had stopped spinning on the car. Helped drag the guy out of the car, me and the folks who lived nearby. I'd hope for the same from anyone who found me in the same situation.

I'll say this, it's awful spooky walking up to a car sitting upside down with the wheels spinning and the radio wide open and you just KNOW there's a dead kid inside. Luckily, this guy was alive.

It happened to me last November.

The ordinary person that I would have passed without even a second glance, had it not been for the accident, stopped whatever they were doing and helped.

My door was jammed shut and I couldn't get free...Bystanders pulled it open.

I couldn't see...a bystander climbed into my wrecked vehicle and found the glasses that were thrown off of my face.

I needed a phone...Two folks held out their cell phones for me.

I had to put my crying 3 year old son down so that I could dial....A woman scooped him up and calmed him down.

I looked over to the other car....and there were already 3-4 people doing what they could for the driver trapped inside with the two kids in back.  They did what they could for her that day.  Three months later, she died from complications as a result of the accident.

I was very thankful that day for the kindness shown by strangers that day.  To this day, I don't know any of their names.

I have to agree with the others.  I think you're just trying to be the turd in the punchbowl.  But, that's just my opinion.

Twice in the last month, I have stopped to help people.  The first was a hit and run accident and the second was a house fire.  I was personally involved in both of these incidents and would hope that someone would do the same for me or my family in the time of need.

the sad thing is...
if i ever came upon the scene where you were in an accident and for some reason i gleaned that you were indeed cyanide from afrcom i wouldn't care two shits about who you were. i'd make sure you were safe and taken care of all the same.

once you were out of the hospital, i might kick your crutch for being such a negative, pessimistic anger monger. it wouldn't however change how i live my life with respect for the dignity of human life and respect for those that have helped me in my times of need.

That's because you are a righteous and moral man.  That doesn't mean that cyanide isn't, it means that he speaks his mind differently than you do.  He may be a DU troller (I don't think so), or he may have BTDT and may have gotten totally screwed because of the honorable actions he has taken.  In any event, just because cyanide says something on an anonymous, cyber/ether/surreal chat room, doesnt mean that his actions would be any different than yours or mine.

I believe in the good of man, especially the men and women on this board.  Call me naive, but I believe in cyanide, jrzy, colinjay and all the people that have replied in this thread to do what is right for his fellow man.  Putting your life in jeopardy to help someone is right and righteous.  I can thank many people who have stopped to assist me and my family.  On the contrary, many people can thank me for stopping to help them.  It's cyclical, as is life.  Have a nice day [;)]

I ran across a truck flipped upside down resting on some semi melted snow in a ditch the winter before last-probably 10 cars had stopped and this is on a rural road. The unfortunate thing is almost everyone whipped out a cel phone and started dialing without checking on the passengers of the truck (at least that's what the scene looked like when I got there-12 people all looking at a truck and dialing the phone [rolleyes]) I went down into the ditch and found one guy standing in the ditch and another 1/2 way in the cab of the truck, the truck was kind of settling in the melting snow and I thought it might flip another 90 degrees so I went up to the guy who was partway in the truck, figuring he was trying to pull someone out (it was at night). Son of Bitch but wasn't it some good hearted guy pawing around in the cab because the other guy was the driver WHO WAS DRUNK AND ASKING FOR HIS CIGARETTES WHICH WERE IN THE CAB!! I pulled the guy out of the cab and told him to get away from the truck before I shifted (which it never did anyway).

When I was working one day, I was sent to a remote area in the county, in regards to a crash, the Hwy. Patrol was busy.
I went and saw where a car had crashed the guard rail. There was snow on the ground and it took me 30 minutes to get to the scene. I saw a car in the creek upside down and sinking.

I looked at the car and first thing I noticed was no foot prints in the snow  on the bank leading away from the upside down crashed car. It was still sinking in the mud and water.

I go to the bank and hear a moan, so I dive into the water, smash the glass with my Buck knife, unlock the door and go under the water inside the car  to see a older 70 year old lady still inside breathing in  the air pocket. She kind of moans "help me please".

I drag her out and to the shore, carry her up the bank, place her in the cruiser, give her a blanket and  turn on the heat full blast, then call a squad. They come and do their  thing. (good guys they are)

She was treated and released for hypothermia, tough old lady she was.

It was Christmas day.

I know what you were calling BS on .

And as to the story , I could care less what you believe,  I did it for my reasons -- mostly because I wanted to, not for  a piece of paper or award ( must have been all those Christmas carols on the radio [:)] ). As to my argument -- again that was then (long time ago), this is now.
