The other night I was listening to the police (Phoenix), and a caller initiated a hot call for a man with a black ski mask, dark clothes, and a military rifle lurking in the neighborhood. I don't think the caller really saw him long enough to see what was going on. Anyhow, the police had the helicopter and probably 6 units trying to find this guy for 20 minutes. Turned out to be a teenager playing with a friend with an airsoft and wearing a ski mask. I'm sure this irritates the police, since it wastes time, resources, and who know what else. I wouldn't like that situation either, and Phoenix PD is always backlogged with calls. So my question is, how long until airsoft is banned or forced to change colors, design, ect... Adam |

Quoted: No the real question is.. WHOOO! CARES! AIRSOFT=GAY! Beats the pants off paintball... I can easily airsoft getting banned before too long. Couple high profile hostage situations in a school or something were some kid actually just had a airsoft gun and boom, they will become very popular items to ban in local ordinances and such... |
|
I agree they're gay, especially for the price. 300 fpm soft pellet [LOL] http://www.airsoftextreme.com/images/ca-m4.jpg $325.00 for a toy!! You can't imagine how many they make and how real they look; pistols and rifles. Any kid could easily get killed for pulling one out. Just look at the shit they sell on that site, http://www.airsoftextreme.com, as well as others. Some as much as 1100 dollars! |
|
BAN THEM! They're not cool! Ban them. Ban THEM! They look too much like a real gun, could scare cops & liberals! Ban THEM! If it saves one child, it's worth it! It gives gun owners a bad name! They're stupid! They're toys! BAN THEM!! BAN THEM!! Ugh. Sometimes I hate people. Really, really hate people. |

My question was how long until the liberals get a hold of this and run with it. I can't imagine the police liking these types of calls. By the way, DU called, they're missing their whipping boy. |

I like airsoft. That's all we have left here in california Or how about this vietnam theme |
| While I understand that the police would be irate about airsofts, I think that they could be a valuable FOF training aid. Yes, they don't actually operate 100% like real firearms, but they are similar in size, heft and feel, so I think they would be ideal to train with. Too bad that too many people want government to be their parents and don't even allow play. I thought only actually shooting a person with a firearm is a crime. What, are we preemptively targeting people before they commit the crime now (or engaged in innocent play scenerio)? Could this be considered racial profiling? |
|
OMG! Someone who can have an adult conversation. Sorry I'm shocked. As far as a training tool, I wouldn't pay the exorbitant amount of money for such a toy, and the fact that it's only 340 fps tops makes me think it's accuracy and distance has to be poor. I know my father hating the paintball stuff I believe his SF unit did on occasion. I don't think they should be banned myself, but I can see a punky kid pointing one at someone on the road and getting a real gun in response. We all know that kids with BB guns have been killed by trigger happy police, hell, here they shoot perps with plastic butter knives in their hand. I just think a little more responsibilty among the parents would have their kids not running around with ski masks, BDUs, and exact replicas of real guns. A few of these kids have walked into local guns stores here and the employees freaked. I was a kid like everyone else. We had more rights back then and I had my share of realistic looking toy guns, but I never would have been so damn stupid. |
| I don't know why everyone is all down on airsoft here, it's a lot of fun and unless you go crazy with some custom expensive gun it's not that expensive (my TM Colt M733 setup cost me around $350 for everything and mild upgrades). It's better than paintball, surely some of you have played/play paintball in the woods or whatever with some buddies? Airsoft is loads more fun and more realistic, and at least you get some exercise and get outdoors... |
|
I think Airsoft could be an excellent training aid, in controlled circumstances. (realistic mag capacities, careful evaluation of where each shot went, etc) If someone pulled one on a police officer I'd fully expect them to get shot. From 2ft away they look like the real thing. |

I'm curious though, how far and accurate can they be? BB guns are pretty inaccurate most of the time and they have much more fps. |
|
About like a paintball gun, 40-50 yards max for standard stuff but the grouping would be pretty large at max range, like minute of torso basically. In the woods typical of around here (Georgia) or especially indoors they shoot pretty good range/accuracy wise. Sure I'd rather have blanks/miles gear but hey... I'm not sure what kind of range you could get with serious mods. Mine shoots about 330-340fps with the $15 spring upgrade I have, fairly happy with that. We just had a game here saturday before last, loads of fun. I just love my little M733... $350 was painful to spend on a "toy", I got each of my AKs for cheaper than that actually. But I look at it in that I can't shoot any of my real guns at people (well at least not at friends, lol), or actually run around playing commando with them. So it's not like it really tries to fill the niche of a real gun, especially when you already have several. And once you have the gun, there is nothing to buy but BBs which are very cheap (assuming you have an electric gun and not a gas gun). |

Whats it like and hows it compare to paintball? It looks kinda fun [:D] (The first two pics at least) |

Airsoft looks like a hell of a lot of fun in a controlled situation. I used to like paintball. 'cause it was military. That's what I wanted. Tactics, and guns, and stuff that I can't normally do being 4F. Then it became pink uniforms and weird guns. That's not what I want to do. Airsoft is cool, and if I could find people around in PA who do it, I'd buy one or two and join the fun. |

| I don't know why you guys complain about the cost of airsoft. It isn't any more expensive than paintball, and in most cases, airsoft costs LESS than paintball. Hoever, many good hobbies are expensive. R/C cars cost a similar amount, planes and helicopers are much more. Computer games are expensive at $40-50 a pop. Luckily though, with airsoft, it's one larger initial expenditure and that's it. The batteries are rechargeable (which power the guns) and BB's cost about $12 for a bag of 3,700 good quality ones. |

Quoted: I understand the value of good training tools. But it sure seems like there's a whole lot of "playing dress up" going on here. But hey, people need hobbies. I actually think that's one of the big draws for the older group that's into airsoft. I used to play paintball WAY back before it became the "court game" (and P.C.) it is today with flourescent jerseys and blow up yellow bunkers. I used to play it back in the day when it was more "tactical" where everyone wore camo and it was more "milsim". Paintball guns were actually called "guns" and not called by the PC term "markers" as they are today. Airsoft takes it back to that "underground" time, and is more milsim. It's fun to be able to pretend to be someone else for a day or weekend and then come back to your normal life. |

These are MOUT pictures from Ft ord.Its open to airsoft players..They also have a suburban housing type field. Yes, you could. But that's as absurd of a comparison as saying that I could buy an R/C car racing setup for $5,000 and then making the argument that for that much $$, you could buy a REAL car. The use of the airsoft gun is NOT the same as the use of the real gun. Apples to oranges here. You can't shoot your friends with the real guns, whereas that's the point with the airsoft guns. I don't see why people can't understand that. Also, some people like to collect. You can't buy an M249 for under $75K, but you CAN get the 1:1 airsoft replica of it for under $1K. Believe me, I've seen people collect (what I consider to be) some dumb things that are a lot more expensive than that. You also happened to pick some very expensive custom airsoft guns to demonstrate price. Most can be had in the $200-300 range. |

the libs are ALREADY trying to ban them...along with other toy guns. http://www.jointogether.org/gv/news/summaries/reader/0,2061,562477,00.html I've read other stories about airsoft...I'm sure there are other places besides the PRJ that are trying to ban them. BTW, I had one...an MP5. It was a hoot, the full auto was awesome. I eventually sold it and got a SAR3. |
