He's Dutch, so that's more than likely a Canadian C7A1(flat top). The optic is an ELCAN, but I can't tell if it's a 6x, or the standard variant. |

It's tape, and the slits are to cut down on incoming light in snow conditions to prevent dazzle and snow blindness. |

Well I would have caught on if I had seen him in a winter environment, I never thought of needing them elsewhere. Oh, I was looking at the snow pic.. same principle applies in sand/desert conditions though.. |

Quoted: These pics should go in a new forum on the site. Maybe Army, Navy, Marines, Airforce, etc pics. These pics are too good to just fade into the sunset. I second this motion.... These are some kick-ass pic! DG84 Funny that "Gyro-Stabilizer" Looks alot like a carabiner and some 550 cord. Those guys have to be good... It takes skill to hit anything with a GAU-2 spitting out 4000 rounds a min. from a moving Helicopter. |

Quoted: Quoted: http://nfo.dodmedia.osd.mil/VIS/2000/Marines/DM-SD-00-03036.JPG Can you say, "Hey, there's the sniper!"? I doubt you'll notice it from 1500 yards away. You can notice the dust cloud in the desert from a far distance, the Barrett kicks up ALOT of dust. I had a few buddies go throught the 1st SFG Hard Target course at Yakima Training Center under the watchful eye of Dean Michaelis and several instructors, they had to prep their hide to minimize dust kickup, detection was a no-go. My friends told me that it was stressed that in the desert to be extra meticulous about minimizing the kick up of dust as it will give your position away. If you are detected in real life, chances are good your ass is toast. Especially if the bad guys got mortars, arty, or air assets! |

Quoted: You do know that he didn't write the captions? I do realize that. I also realize it is MUCH funner to make up our own (see posts below yours). If we REALLY want to know the actual story, we can find it easily. I like "make a caption" on the .mil pix!!! (from responses to DVDTracker's threads, and below your post in this thread, others do too). Just MY opinion. (and yes, this opinion is swayed because the originator of this thread spammed a similar thread by DVD by reposting all the pix with captions....) |

I googled M-89 Multi-barrel and I got 3 count them 3 pages. (and one about multi rocket launchers) All in Russian. All apparently about sniper rifles. The Harris M-89 appears to be a takedown that comes in .308, .30-06 and .300 Win Magnum. Apparently with varying barrel lengths, otherwise why bother with three relatively similar cartridges. Looks like it comes in a suitcase with stock and receiver assembly, detached barrels and tools. Another look and looky here http://www.snipercentral.com/m86.htm Made by Harris for the Seal. Number should be 86 not 89 and Harris is defunct, but used McMillan stocks which that appears to be and 30-06 and 300 variants explain long action. |
