Individual officers will sometimes offer rationalizations, but make no mistake: they want to be the ones wearing the jackboots and telling you to pick up that can. That's why they became cops in the first place. The only time tyrannical regimes run low on cops is when the citizens make police work more dangerous than it's worth. Until then there is never any shortage of heroes willing to fire up the ovens.

(Was on PAID leave for quite a while)
25.Frazier  - NYPD = left alone with a friend's 10 year old, molested her
26. Aiello Whigham PD = 30 counts of molesting children
27. Forte Suffolk co. DA's officer = raped his daughter's 12 year old friend in 1995, but when caught has delayed prosecution as he has been 'on death's doorstep' for 25 years, all the while living it up in Florida playing with boats, taking extended vacations, while claiming to be too sick to travel to court.
28.Nunez, Bexar Co Deputy = repeatedly raped a 4 year old for months, threatened to deport mother when discovered.  Mother fled to a fire department for santuary/protection
29.Lory, Chamberlee PD = molested a 9 year old family member and other unnamed victims.
30.Enhoffer, st Petersburg PD = would draw in children of illegal aliens with threats of deportation, used them to create child pornography, as well as collecting and distributing child porn made by others.  Unfortunately the creation charges were hard to sustain as most victims had disappeared, but at least got charged with possession and distribution even if he sidestepped the creation charges
31.32.33. Whitcome, Haynes, Graff, York Corrections = forced inmates to fight for their entertainment by withholding food and offering snacks
34. Neu San Francisco Co Deputy = threats of violence threats of rape to coerce inmates to fight for his entertainment
35-100.Smith, warden, and numerous prison guards Concordan State CA = arranged fights in prison yard for entertainment and place bets (often inviting prison secretaries and female guards from another prison to come witness the fun).  Many of these fights resulted in death. Also shot prisoners to death and covered it up. Sometimes in relation to a staged fight getting out of hand, as well as other reasons that seem related to drug trade.  Sometimes they orchestrated fights to justify shooting just because they felt like shooting someone.
101. Holtzclaw, Ok City PD. multiple counts of rape, sexual battery, force-able sodomy. 18 counts involving 8 women, who knows how many more.   Would use his PD status to run background checks and blackmail the women into having sex
102. Macklin, Prince George County PD, raped a woman he pulled over, then forced her to drive to a secluded area, raped her but was interrupted, so he jumped back in his squadcar and took off.
103. Vanderpool, Maryland PD = booked then raped at least one woman, tried to infect her with HIV.  Looks to be many more victims.
104. Collins, Wilks-Barre PD = raped at least 4 women while on duty, witness intimidation against those women.  Dangled the promise of dropping charges for sex.
105. 106. Martins and Hall, NYPD = raped a teen they found in possession of marijuana, leveraged charging her to get her to have sex.  - officers got off on a technicality as it wasn't specifically prohibited by law to have sex with someone in custody, or have sex for the promise of not prosecuting.  Got 5 years probation for bribery and misconduct.
107. McCarthy, Boston Transit Police = raped at least 2 women while on duty, working at a tourist destination stop (the aquarium), would trick drunk college girls into his cruiser for a joyride, and after driving around for a while with lights on, would end the joyride in an vacant lot, and threaten to leave them there unless they had sex.  Other cops knew about it, at least the 'joyride' part, told him it was a bad idea but didn't actually act.
108. Stark, Fontana PD. Raped a 16 year old girl he had drugged/got passed out drunk while celebrating his graduation from the PD academy bug before being formally hired.  Once this was uncovered he was put on PAID administrative.  leave. Happened about a month ago.
109. Cates, Milwaukee PD. 19 year old woman called to report vandalism, only to be violently raped by the responding officer. 2 officers showed up, one took the 15 year old brother outside to talk.  Cates gave the woman's boyfriend a $10 to go buy him some cold water at the store, allowing him to be alone with her and rape her. He grabbed her by the hair, bent her over, and raped her. She ran outside and barfed.  Cates didn't come out right away, still getting his pants and belt on.  Other cops arrived.  Cates grabbed her, as she flailed she may have made contact with another cop, so was charged with assaulting a police officer. Had also been accused of choking his domestic partner (also a cop) and raping a prison inmate earlier.  Was convicted and sentenced to 25 years, but is being re-tried due to his attorney's mistake.
110-120. Staff at Lackawana Co Prison - 10 guards and other staff raped 16 women.
121-500.  police officers were charged with 405 rapes between 2005 and 2013, or about 45 per year.  Plus 636 forcable foldings.  Note these are charges not accusations, nor convictions.

No, it's not unconstitutional laws (although they exist and are sometimes used to arrest), it's arresting people for 'resisting arrest'.  It's arresting people for 'taking videos of our department'.  It's arresting people for saying fuck the police or giving them the finger.  It's arresting people who are news media, even when news media was specifically exempt from whatever orders they are attempting to enforce (such as curfew).  These are of course actually attempting to charge for the crime of disrespecting the police, for not being a groveler bootlicker.  Of course sometimes the cops slap on a charge that's real, such as the guy who flipped them off, arresting him for jaywalking, or for having an obstruction on his rear view mirror, or what have you.

Those who do learn history are doomed to watch others repeat it.

If I start doing the police's job, I'll get arrested by the police. If the police start doing my job, it just decreases my workload.

Frankly, I don't really care if the police stop doing their jobs. I really care when they just go after the low hanging fruit to make it seem like they aren't worthless.

My mothers side of the family is 100% English. But I've always thought that part of the family might have a bit of Spanish or Portuguese blood.

I'll never forget seeing a travel show about a guy who was a son of a Spanish exile. He described his father going back to Spain for a visit when Franco was in charge. The trip was very upsetting. Not because he or his father were harassed by the police but because everything had changed from what he remembered.
