Well, boys... the judge signed the decree. I am a single man! Final orders basically stuck me with the same draconian "temporary" stuff until the end of July, after which time the Succubus gets no more spousal support. I also got stuck with 1/2 of the portion of her student loans that were used to support the household (basically total student loan amount minus tuition fees boosk etc). Getting married to someone about to take on a bunch of post-grade education without a prenup was a major fuck up. Anyway, I have about $18,000K to pay to her over 5 years on that score, and I got stuck with most of the credit cards. She got a house, the equity of which I'm not really certain given the roller coaster market, and which needs repairs of which she is aware. If/when she sells it she'll have to eat the realtor fees. As a trade for the equity of the house, I got my whole pension account unburdened now and forever by any QDRO bullshit. It ain't over, of course. She's going to want to move out of state in about six months, so my lawyer and I are working on preparing the "no you're not" case. All in all, its been a fairly annoying process. If I can leave you guys with a thought it would be this: PRENUP PRENUP PRENUP! If she won't sign the motherfucker, kick her ass to the curb and start over. Oh, and I'm now dating a woman who's independently wealthy (her family had money that makes me look like nada). She's not a "sugar mama" and I'm not treating her as such, but it is nice being out of a relationship where the only thing keeping the marriage in place was the succubus wanting to get her degree on my back! Now, gotta go... I'm going to the fun store to buy myself a "fuckin' A awesome" divorce present. |

I agree...prenups are a great way to plan a divorce. Lot easier then looking for a woman that is decent anyways... Meh, whatever dude. I married a decent woman. She turned into the devil when she decided there was another guy in whom she was more interested. I'd say that the boards here and elsewhere are fully of such stories. Fully 50% of marriages end in divorce, and the guys are getting fucked nearly 100% of the time. Besides, I think by definition a woman who agrees to sign the damn thing goes a long way toward proving up her bona fides as a "decent woman." If she refuses, well... what does that tell you. Screw it. I'm happy as hell and I'm about to go get myself a nice new pistola. |

I'm curious, is there any male on the board who has received $ from his ex? I basically raised my son from age 6 on without a dime of help. It's too long to tell, but it was a good deal anyway, and she and I are still good friends today. But have any of you heard of money going the other way (NOT counting the Top money folks here, just working class folks.) Gonzo, I'm with you, never again without a prenupt. But I'm curious, if you and miss independent tie the knot, are you willing to sign a prenupt? |

Gonzo, I'm with you, never again without a prenupt. But I'm curious, if you and miss independent tie the knot, are you willing to sign a prenupt? Its hard for me to even think about marrying again at this point, and this woman... well, I don't know if she's marrying material anyway. Frankly, I'm not too excited to tie the knot again at all, frankly. For a man, in this day and age, there's really not much of a benefit to marrying. Sure, women you date will want that status, but I've never had any difficulty finding a woman to hang out with, and marriage burned me so bad... well, screw it at this point. |

| Well Gonzo, having been through it myself last year, I won't say anything like "congratulations". I too was glad to get a loser off my hands, but divorce still leaves a mark that is real ugly. Only thing you can do is look at the bright side. And with guys like us, and women being how they are, the bright side is generally easy to find!!!! |

The 50% thing is a myth, based on either statistical ignorace or outright deception by those reporting it. http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/d/divorce.htm If 100 couples get married each year, and there are 50 divorces each year, that does not mean that 50% of marriages end in divorce - because it doesn't take into account people who were married 5, 10, 25 or more years ago and are still married. Estimates from the article above is that just above 10% of all marriages end in divorce. And probably quite a few of those are serial marriers. |

688......WayCool! When I got my boy in the 70's it was a pretty rare event. I now see a lot of men stepping up to the plate and raising their kids, but I never hear of any financial help flowing that way. It's nice to know that equality can mean exactly that, thought it doesn't happen enough. |

A prenup is great advice. No way in hell I would assume a dime of student loan debt. None of that can be discharged in a bankruptcy so you are stuck with it till you die or pay it off. No thanks! yes, yes! Which is why we got the Court to enter an order making "my share" a general "Property and Debt Equalization" payment, and expressly stating that she's solely responsible for actually paying off her student loan debt. That way, if need be, I can flush this obligation. I won't becuase the succubus would take it out on my daughter, but there are some matters of strategery we were able to prevail upon. |
