I bought a new truck on 3-01-04. The the next day (3-02-04) I went to meps to re-enlist in the Army Reserves.

GM is offering an additional $750 off of a new vehicle for Military members.

Well, my dealer never asked me if I was in the military. If I had known this was being offered I would definitely have waited another week to buy the truck.

I called the dealer and they said they don't think that GM is going to go back and do this credit for me. I think that they should. If they don't it goes completely against why they are giving this incentive in the first place. I don't see what the difference would be. I feel like the dealer screwed up on this. If they'd have told me I damn sure would have waited! $750 is a lot of money!

What do you all think? Should I pursue this with GM?

You bought the truck before you Re-enlisted? Does that mean that you were not actually in the service when you bought the truck? If so, how does that entitle you to the discount?

I think it would be nice if they did, but based on what you stated, you were not infact in the military on the day you bought the truck.  They therefore would have no obligation to honor that incentive program.  Good luck though, hope you get it.

I think you should, the worst they could say is no. I'm willing to bet someone along their chain of command is x-military & still remembers that we take care of our own.

Does the rebate cover those who serve in the Guard and Reserves? [B]IF[/B] you were in the reserves on the day you purchased the truck then you deserve the $750.00...I would go back to the dealership have them make a copy of my Mil-ID showing I was infact enlisted and serving on the purchase date and explain to them you were unaware and your salesman never offered it and that you are entitled to it... Having been in the car business I dont think they are going to the trouble of backdating the contract or re-contracting you to a lower amount financed with GI rebate...however...if you push the issue and are legitimately intitled to it, then there is a rebate form the dealer can fill out to have GM cut you a check for the $750.00...sounds like you got a new gun in your future...

Like I said I would most definately have waited to buy the truck if I knew they were offering this discount because I was going the very next day to re-enlist. They are giving this incentive out of respect for our Military not like some regular rebate. It would just go completely against the whole reason their offering it to not give it to me.

COZ...were you in fact a member of the Armed Forces, Gaurd or Reserve on the purchase date? If yes...you deserve the rebate...if not then you really dont have a case...this late in the deal the conttract has been sent to GMAC or whatever bank financed you and its a done deal...no dealership if going to risk his franchise over fudging the paperwork to get somebody a GI rebate if he didnt actually qulaify the day he bought the vehicle. If you were a member of the Armed Services the day you bought the truck and simply went in the next day to re-up then you got a case if not...

Technically, I think it's YOUR job to be aware of discounts and rebates that you migth qualify for.  I don't think it's necessarily fair to say that the cmpany should go out of their way to tell you about ways for them to make less money.  Since you didn't ask for it when you signed the paperwork, you lost out.  Bummer for you, but caveat emptor.

That said, I imagine that if you spend enough time hassling people at GM (and finding the right people to hassle) that they WILL give you the rebate.

Good luck.  If the dealer won't budge then move on to GM corporate, or a regional manager or something like that.

Let me tell you about a trick I learned from my wife.....If you bitch long enough and loud enough you often get at least 1/2 of what you want.  Regardless of weather you are right or not.

[lolabove] That's true! I'm gonna bitch about this. My Girlfriend bought a car last year and the salesman asked her and she doesn't look a bit like a Soldier. Of course she didn't mention this until I found the offer on GM's website. Personally I think the dealer screwed up. The sales manager was in a huge hurry to get done and get out of there and didn't ask. to me it's the same as not telling me GM is offering a $2500.00 rebate which she did tell me about.

Let me give you an example.  I live in an area where the local supermarket(Safeway) will actually deliver groceries to your door.  They charge $10 for delivery, but first delivery is free.  SO wife ordered groceries from them and waited a week.  They called up and asked if she wanted to place an order again...she starts bitching about the delivery costs.  They always give it to her for free and often a 5% discount on the next order.

This has been going on for several months now and she has yet to pay any delivery charge.  She does this with about every purchase she makes and often saves good money.

Works for me....

No, no! There should be a law forcing big evil companies to give shit away for free! The government should see to that. For the children!

Bascially, COZ, GM is giving that rebate voluntarily and you're not entitled to anything. Even _if_ you'd have been an actual member of the army reserves the day you bought that truck.

> Well, my dealer never asked me

Maybe that's because a 2004 mother-of-pearl Escalade with 21 inch gold-painted rims just doesn't scream "military customer" to him? ;)

Ford gave me a $300 credit (rebate) because I use the truck to haul my crap to sell at the local flea markets  Something about having a seller's or occupational license.  I didn't actually have the license, but they gave me 30 days to get it.

Even _if_ you'd have been an actual member of the army reserves the day you bought that truck.[red] Thats exactly what I'm saying. Because GM is doing this "voluntarily" you'd think (I hope) that they would still honor the offer. I don't think i'm entitled to it just that you'd think out of the spirit of the offer that they'd still honor it due to the circumstances.[/red]
