The house behind where I live has a dog that was put in the yard about a month ago. Before I saw the dog the house always looked abandoned to me - never any lights on, bigtime overgrown trees and yard, house looks like it needs alot of repairs. When I first saw the dog in the yard I went over and looked and someone had cleaned up the yard alot. It still looks like shit but it is way better then it was before. I was happy. I figured someone must have moved into the house and maybe they will fix it up. Recently I've been checking on this dog because I still never see any lights on in this house. I think whoever put the dog there is tring to stavre it to death. This dog has no water or food bowls and is kept outside all the time. From time to time I've been feeding him meat thru the fence. Today I got a good look at him in the daylight and he looks like he hasn't been fed in weeks. You can see his ribs and his stomach is all sunken in. He is out there barking I'm assuming from hunger pains. I gave him a bowl of water. I also walked around and knocked on the door of the house but there was no answer. I'm positive that people live in the house next door to the one with the dog so I knocked there too. They are probably at work. What do you guys think I should do ? |
| I just got home from work and on the way I bought some puppy chow. I fed him some and he ate it so fast I gave him some more. My girlfriend even hopped the fence and played with him a little. He seems happy for the time being. I banged on the front door of the house. No one answered. |

Friends neighbors had a fence they moved out left 3 chowthings in it. Never fed them after a little while friends mother fed them, a week or 2 later people came back, THREW (not opened gate, threw over it) 2 more dogs. Friend called animal control. Came out and left a not on the door sayins basicly "Your neighbor (they are the only one) called and complained about your dogs". Friends calls them back again, they said "dont feed them". Called them back a few days later finally someone came and hauled them away. So call animal control let them get him and keep him for awhile before he goes to the electric box. Keep him if you like dogs. Stop its suffering yourself. |

I do want to help save this dog. I don't have a place to keep him though. He is solid white with light brown eyes. He seems really friendly, just neglected. I don't know much about dogs, but to me he looks like an American bull dog. Not a pit. He is bigger then that. He probably weighs about 30 lbs now and he is just a pup. I would DEFINATELY steal this dog and nurse him back to health if someone else would take him perminately. |

Quoted: The Philly ASPCA doesn't keep animals very long.I would call a rescue or take him yourself as a pet, after a trip to the vet. He will likely be euthenized if taken by the ASPCA.Cats are instantly killed. This is usually true. I had a rather LARGE Rottie wander into my yard one day. He was wearing a collar so I went to check him out. He wandered over to me and mostly collapsed. I got him some food and water but the damn thing was just exhausted. I already had 2 dogs so I called Animal Control but it was after hours so I called the Sheriff's Office. They came out to pick it up and before I turned it over to them I got their assurance that it wouldn't be put to sleep or anything and that if I found someone who wanted it they could get it assuming a owner could not be found. By 4pm the very next day I had a buddy who wanted it and we called Animal Control who didn't want to give me any information at all and finally told me the dog was put to sleep because Rotties are on the 'dangerous breed' list. Dog was the most docile, freindly thing I had ever seen and those fucking savages killed it without giving it any kind of chance. I'll never again call them for anything I don't want to see dead. |

That's the bottom line here Ceaser (Philadelphia_GunMan), Thumbs Up? ... or Down? At this point, it's your decision. If the .gov is involved the dog will die. (there's at least a good 90% chance of it.) It may be too late since you've made a call already. If he makes it to the pound, he'll have maybe a few days to be adopted. If he's not, he'll get the needle. At least feed and water him while you can. |

I could hold this dog myself for a few days or even a few weeks if someone would take him perminaintly. I live with 5 roomates so it is no so simple as just keep him. I just got done playing with him for 1/2 an hour. THIS DOG NEEDS A HOME. THIS DOG IS GOOD AND IT NEEDS A HOME. |

Have you thought about posting about the dog in the Pennsylvania Hometown forum? You might have more luck finding someone to take him in. And if you're really serious you might want to drop Wolfpack an IM, he does a lot with the Las Vegas Great Dane rescue, so he might be able to give you some links to animal rescue websites and other tips on how to find the poor guy a home. |

SPCA or Animal Control is the last option I would look to these days. Do a search on the internet or look in the pet ads in your local paper for NO KILL RESCUES. The other option is, if you believe this dog had bulldog in him, do a google search for "breed rescues" and contact a few bully rescues. I'll be honest, a lot of these places are overflowing. I work with a no-kill rescue in Louisville and they have leased all five of my open kennel runs and there's always a waiting list to get in here. But I would try..... and thank you for doing what you can. IM me privately if I can help in any other way. Sara |

If want and can take care of him, leave a note on the neighbours front and rear/side doors asking for permission to have him, etc. If you don't want him, or know of someone who would, call the ASPCA. I hate seeing an animal put down because the OWNER is an asshole. It should be the other way around. Honestly. What ever you do, PLEASE don't let it go on. How would you feel being chained up, no food, no water, probably not even a decent dog house, with something in it for warmth... If all else fails, you could ask them if they'd like to go out hunting with you... but there will be an 'accident'...... [noclue] |
|
True, just 'steal' him. If they have anything to say about... Then all you have to tell them is to [red]FUCK OFF![/red]. Because they were NOT taking care of him, and you should've reported him them... They'll turn around, and walk away. You wont hear anything from them again.... Especially if they know you're a gunner. Besides you're not stealing him, you're RESCUING him. (I haven't read the whole thread yet - I'm to the part where you called the ASPCA) |

On a side note, dogs that are rescued tend to be very thankful and loving towards their NEW and friendly owners. If they're often beaten, it may take time, but they deserve that time. *Sorry for the 3 posts... I forgot what I wanted to say and was unable to edit my previous. |
| On what Gunbert was saying...I do work with the Las Vegas Great Dane Rescue and there have been a few times that someones dog has been in such bad shape that we have just gone in the yard and taken him strait to the vet and then tried to adopt him out. Just a few months ago we took two Danes, a male and female that weighed about 65 pounds each, they should have been well over 100 pounds each. The female adopted out well after spending a few weeks at the vets but the male didn't do so well, we are deciding whether or not to put him to sleep. The "owner" left them outside for at least 2 weeks with no food or WATER....yea no Goddamn water...unreal. My advice to you is to take photos of the dog and the area he lives in, as many as you can and if it were ME I'd go in and take the dog and get him to a vet. IF the owner confronts you about taking him show him your pictures (duplicates of course) and tell him you will turn them over to the police if he files a complaint against you, that scares them off 99% of the time, he will figure it is easier to go find another dog to starve. |
| This kind of stuff makes me crazy! Just like the stories of abused/neglected kids. Do us all a favor and if cannot (or WILL not) take care of your kids or pets, then get them to someone who will. And for cryin out loud, don't get them in the first place. I have one little dog. She is a house dog. I want another medium-sized dog. But I don't have a fenced yard yet. So I cannot properly care for a larger breed. Therefore... I have put what I want second to what would be best for the freakin' dog. How hard is that concept to understand? Why are people so damn selfish and stupid? I have been through this with neighbors before, as I am sure most of us have. It's too bad that we cannot chain-up the abusive owner with no food or water. Justice demands that. Having said that, I don't think it'd make any difference. Most of us here simply don't have it in us to be this selfish and screwed-up. People who do cannot be fixed by punishment. They just don't get it, and never will... |

Quoted: Well if it IS an American Bulldog, and they are GREAT dogs BTW, give these guys a ring: http://www.americanbulldogrescue.org/ From personal experience, those sorts of organizations take very good care of the dogs they recieve... My dog is an Irish Setter from a local setter rescue organization. We got him as a puppy, and the lady who runs the rescue kennel sends him dog toys & treats all the time... I've been to her kennel, & all the dogs were well taken care of... |

So instead of turning him in to the SPCA and cops for animal abuse you let him go so he can do it again? Take him to the vet get a report, take pics, get witness's etc etc... At the very least he will be on record with the SPCA so he wont be able to get another dog there, best case he gets charged for animal abuse. Either way the dog will very likely be taken and you can adopt/foster him unitl a home can be found. SorryOciffer |

It is illegal for us to go onto someones property and take their dog, if they threaten us with action we show them we are not the only one's going to trial. It is the only way to do this sometimes, if the SPCA takes the dog they won't spend the money to nurse the dog back to health they just put 'em to sleep. They put healthy dogs to sleep all day long because they don't have room. |

What sucks is that because of this stance they get only 10% of their op budget from any governmental source, the other 90% is all donations/fundraisers. Between my parents and my wife and I we donate or buy about $500-750 a year worth of stuff to them and we go to socialize some of the less friendly ones SorryOciffer |

SorryOciffer, I guess that is the difference from SPCA's in a large vs. small community. Las Vegas is well over a million people and the shelters here are as corrupt as the city leaders. The shelters here won't even call us if they have a Dane they picked up, either we get a tip from someone who happens to be in a shelter that they have a Dane or we find it, otherwise the dog gets 3 days and then its....[:(]. They have our number and know we will take any Dane they have but I guess it's too much trouble to make one call to save a dog. |

Quoted: Sorry if I dropped the ball guys. I really had no idea what to do. Dude, don't go beating yourself up on this one! You did SOMETHING! That's more than most people would have done. Hell, I bet most people, IF they noticed wouldn't have taken the time to feed the dog, water the dog, play with the dog, Like YOU took the time to do! I'm not Italian or anything, but I'll give you a "Good on ya mate" for what ya did! [;)] |
