How to detect scare scams:

When evaluating any scare claims made, check to see if the purveyor of those claims is selling something to help you deal with the 'crisis' they are predicting.

Gee, look, he's selling a book!

What a bunch of crap.

Technologies are finally coming on line to recover oil from the tar sands in Canada, which will last us another 100 years.

The massive (or is it absolutely freakin' _monstrous_) oil fields in the Gulf of Mexico seem to be refilling themselves.  The theory is that oil may not have come solely from squished up dinosaurs, but is created directly from the pressures of the earth's inner crust, and slowly makes its way to the surface.

Peak oil is a scam used by those who want to spread fear and panic, to sell something, or both.

Truthfully, we only need most of our oil for another 30 or so years, max.  At that point, hydrogen and nuclear power will take care of everything.  Petroleum will only be used for plastics and lubricants, not fuel.
