Ok, as you may or may not have known, I am divorced.  I owe my attorney LOTS of money.  He needed a new computer and I am a hardware guy.  No problem there.  Here is my big problem.

He and his secretary have a wireless peer to peer connection and I have NO idea how to faciltate this connection again.

His computer is Win XP and hers is Win2K.  He uses her computer from his desktop (he uses her Word and WPerfect) to write papers and such.

The connection is via DLink DWL122 USB adapters.

Please help, I NEED to be his hero.

Here's a couple ideas

Where is the Router?

Make sure the workgroup names are the same.

Let the software control the connection not windows,(Known to be a problem.).

Try those then get back to me. :)

Ok, maybe I wasnt clear... I have no idea of where to start.  Is there a list somewhere I can read to walk me through step by step?

See what I can do to help,

1st- try posting this in the urban commandoes section. let me know if you do.

2nd- this will be a lot easier if you have the dlink software  called AirPlus installed on both computers.

I am assuming he has the new computer and hers is the  same as far as hardware and software configuration.
The airplus software  should be listed under her programs folder.  If there is an ascending  bar graph in her task manager that is either green or yellow or possible  with an x thru it it is already running. Double click on that, otherwise start it up and look at the configuration. Install the Airplus on his machine and configure the same way.

There is a way to do this under Network Connections, Properties ,Configure tab for 2000
and under Network Connections, Properties, wirelssnetworks tab for xp  but it is not as easy as using the Dlink software.

let me know if more help is needed......

pretend it is just a regular serial connection. The only difference is you are using the usb devices(which you will have to get drivers for, and install,) instead of a null modem cable.
Your best bet is the trouble shooting section for those usb devices. Look them up on linksys site.

since this is peer2peer there will be no router.

to check if both computers have the same workgroup name right click on my computer choose properties and make sure both computers are part of the MSHOME workgroup(or whatever you want to call it).

AndrewH-
What serial cables and null modems and other hardware have to do with this guys problem I have no idea. Nor do I understand why you would refer him to the lynksis website when he has Dlink hardware. Its usually best to remain quiet then to remove all doubt as to your lack of knowledge...or abiity to comprehend what he asked for help with.

Sorry remembered reading linksys. Didn't go back and check.
He said he didn't know where to start, and it is just like a serial connection, but instead of using a null modem cable you use the usb devices.
And it depends on who set it up if they used the software that came with it or what windows provides. Since I didn't have a specific place for him to look, I thought I would help in some other way.

Practically Networked noted above is a good site.

www.dslreports.com has some good troubleshooting and networking forums that might help too.
