I think that's where the doctor's oath came from.

Some say the Pelopennesian Wars played a huge role in the advent of modern medicine. There was a nursing corps that was founded on the principles of herbal remedies and apparently many were healed as a result.

Okay...serious question.  Lets say a certain person does have a split personality.  And lets just say for the record that this other personality is also a male.  If this other personality comes out and "pleasures himself" with the original personalities equipement does this mean that he is gay?

i disagree. investing in a corporation that directly violates your personal views is hypocritical. I am very sure there are PLENTY of companies that would turn a profit that DO support her veiws. Would you buy large quantities of LEVI's or another company that ws rabidly anti-gun?

On the other hand i also beleive that she has an investment company doing her purchasing and she likely doesn't have a clue what she owns.

Sorry, but my investment strategy does not take into account the Cause D'Jour, if Levi's hits my strike points, I buy, if they don't, then I don't.

You understand how the market works, right?  Unless I am buying at IPO, none of my stock purchase money is being seen by the actual company I am investing in, Levi's doesn't see a dime from my purchase of their stock (Unless again, I am buying into an IPO).

I can assure you, that unless Ms. Heinz is looking to redistribute her wealth, that she knows quite well what she is invested in.

Making money with your money is not a hands off game, it takes quite a bit of work, that no one but you can do.

IBM is not getting the money, unless they are the owners of the stock you are buying.

A share of stock in a company is a tradeable item, at IPO, a certain number of shares are created to be sold.  After that point, unless there is a re-issuance by the company, no more are available.

WHen you are buying a share of stock, you are not giving money to the company that is listed on the stock certificate, you are buying that share form someone else, who owns that share and who wants to sell it at Price X, that you are willing to pay for it.

Thats why even in bad markets, there is always  people making money.  I value a share of stock at Z and you are willing to sell your share at Z, we have a trade.

Should I elaborate?

Yes, since the COMPANY is selling you the stock (usually at a reduced price) the COMPANY does get the money, however when you buy it on the market you are buying it from a THIRD PARTY who has already bought the stock and paid the COMPANY the money. When you complete this transaction, the THIRD PARTY gets the money, not the COMPANY. I guess you could say that indeirectly you are giving the company money, but if it was a good investment for the person selling it, you are paying the third party more than they paid the company.

Make any sense?

EDIT: Guess I'm too slow at typing.....
