I have a Winchester 24 gun safe with an LA Gard 3710 Electronic Lock.
It won't open. Anyone know how to reset it without calling a locksmith? Put in a New Battery, but I still get three beeps when trying to open it. Then the 5 minute lockout. |
|
The manual says to press and hold the 0 key for 10 seconds before installing the new battery. Did you try that?

I have that safe/lock and I’ve never done that when changing batteries. I wonder what it does or doesn’t do. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Same thing happened to me. The locking mechanism went bad. Called them and the guy first emailed me some steps to try. When that didn't work, he told me lock mechanism was bad and it was about $80 to replace. I told him I was recently unemployed (which I was) and he said "no worries, what is your address" and sent it to me free of charge along with the complete programming guide.
Good company to deal with. |

If the safe is registered to you Winchester will provide you a backup code. This code cannot be changed by you. If it is not registered to you they will ask for proof of ownership. I had to send them a copy of a notarized letter from local police stating the safe was in my possession and the numbers came back clean. Mine opened up with the backup code. It cost me about $50 for a new keypad. If the internal locking mechanism has completely failed and not the keypad it will turn into a drill job.

Thanks for the tips. I will keep trying.
I had the combo written down in a safe place, but it disappeared. The wife said she didn't touch it. Guess it grew wings and flew away. SMH There is only a few numbers it could be. |

That keypad is notorious for going bad. I have the same one on my Winchester safe and the one number on the pad is touchy, I need to press it straight in with just my fingernail or it doesn't recognize the press correctly and locks me out.
Here's a big thread about it. http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=277049 |

Take the battery out and let the capacitors fully drain then put the battery back in?

Clicked on this thread to see if culprit was an electronic lock. My bias against electronic locks has been once again reinforced.

Mine eventually opened. I immediately replaced the electronic lock with a manual S&G...
They are junk safes with junk electronic locks... |

I wouldn't actually say I don't know the combination, but my attempts have failed me thus far.
I only use a few different ones and none have worked. My Cannon Oxbow with the manual lock is in the living room upstairs and has never failed me. There will be more attempts, but I think this lock might be cooked. There is probably 20K of high end AR's in there. Armalite's and some Sig's and a few others. They deserve better than a $400 safe. That Oxbow weighs 800 lbs. This one is cheaply made. |

I have always wanted a Liberty or a Fort Knox. These Winchester safes are shit. Lesson learned. There is probably 20K of high end AR's in there. Armalite's and some Sig's and a few others. I appreciate all the input and especially like all the digs and GIFs.
I can take a Joke. I know it is probably my fault. I work stupid hours at a factory and that is why I can afford cool guns. Same job for 32 years. I will crack that bastard! |

Are you using a alkaline battery for the replacement? When I first got mine from sams club the only 9v batteries I had in the house were the Panasonic heavy duty ones that my wife gets for free from her work. It would beep but not actually move the servo. I reread the manual and it said alkaline only. Went to Albertsons and got a copper top and it worked perfect.
|
|
Yes, It is an Alkaline Battery, just not a copper top.
I forget every time I go to the store. I am starting to think it is battery related. The beeps seem kind of slow. |

OP if you own basic tools the second you decide that "fuck this I'm opening the sumbitch up".. You'll have the sumbitch open.
I'd exhaust my other options first but welding a plate on the back and replacing the lock isn't actually that bad if you find yourself stumped. Much cheaper than a locksmith. |

Finally Cracked it. Got the Lithium Battery, Jiggled the Handle. Bam! I think the cheap ass linkage in there had something to do with it. Handle was blocking the solenoid. It couldn't blow the load without the Lithium. I appreciate all the help brothers! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49628822818_62faea3d60_z.jpg[url=https://flic.kr/p/2iBwFYW] View Quote |

PM is a thing. Where did you get that "Winchester" safe? Mine has a door that is plate steel (like 1/4" or 3/8"s thick). It looks a lot different. More pics if you can. Mine was from Sam's club maybe 10 years ago. Thanks for the closure on the issue. |

I bought it from Tractor Supply about 10 years ago. Might have been longer.
When I pulled the old battery, It expired in 2014, but still worked. That train layout is gone. Got everything boxed up though. You need some trains? |
