I posted this over at AK-47.net but that site's on the rocks so let me see what y'all think: I've got a little girl on the way, due late July. I'm thinking she can do without a social security number until she's old enough to decide for herself whether she needs one or not. What are we in for? Any advice appreciated.

I think you won't have a choice.  She'll get one before she leaves the hospital, virtually.

Without an SSN, you can't claim her as a dependent, and you may not be able to include her on your health plan.

Also, when she turns school age, they may not allow her to attend, it depends on the district policy...

Yup, kinda sucks...  Used to be that it wasn't required to register your children, but we are now numbers known to the Government, for auditing purposes.

It's not a bad thing to get her a SSN, hell, I wish I had 3 or 4, then I could clean up some past credit issues  [:D]

As of this year in Washington she will not be able to get a hunting or fishing license w/o one.

$50 will get ya a nice reproduction of an official SS card.  I see illegal aliens every day with them.  They pay no taxes, and their kids go to public schools.  They even get free healthcare.

Yes, I realize I'm decked out in tinfoil on this one. But it bugs me nonetheless. I don't care about the tax claim, and I've already verified that my health insurance co. will cover her without one. I don't think she's going to attend a public school. SOooooo, I think we'll do without it. But Celt, she won't get one if we don't apply for one, is my understanding. I'm sure we'll at least be asked to sign some form?

You are are kidding right? A unregistered child?

How are you going to be able to prove she is pre or post ban?

I see big trouble in her future at the very least she will have to be grandfathered in and that paperwork will be a nightmare.

I would get a position letter from the DEA, ATF, FBI, and the CIA before I would do this.

SSN=socialist security number

an FBI agent said to me once that we are all just numbers in a system. he said this casually which pissed me off to no end. i was going to say something to him, but at the time i was getting a jop with the USPS, in which he was finger printing me. the fact that i did not flame him bothers me to this day.

i am not a number, i am a free man lib

I guess things have changed, I didn't get my SS# until about the age of 17. You can't legally work without it. Even Illegals need some kind of fake number before they can get a "real" job.

As for paying taxes, the government "takes" their share before you even get your paycheck, SS, FICA, etc etc. My best friend used to run a sowing factory in LA, aka sweatshop. A lot of them were probably illegal. But if they had the right paper work and a SS number and they would work for very little money, they were hired. They all pre-paid their taxes, whether citizen, legal or illegal alien. The difference is, being illegal, they couldn't file an income tax form and get money back from the IRS.

The only illegals that don't pay income tax are those that are paid under the table. Day workers and such. But then again everyone pays sales tax, utility tax, gas tax, power tax, on and on and on.

Be prepared for her, and you, to face a major hassle at every turn the rest of her life, starting with refusal to sign that application in the hospital.  She'll have an uphill battle getting into school, opening a bank account, getting a credit card, getting a job...every single step of the way.
No, it's not right.  It's terribly, terribly wrong.  That is also irrelevant.

It's Better to have it than not. There are lots of benefit of having it, just ask an illegal alien.

You are required by law now to get your newborn child a SSN. I don't believe it's optional any longer

If you choose to not get one that's cool, but..... get it BEFORE she is 17. Growing up my girlfriend didn't have one and I was trying to help with the process. Much easier Before they are 17. She should be able to decide by then, If she is raised to be aware of those kind of things at all.

I didn't have one until I was 16 or so. The people in the SS office couldn't believe I didn't have one.

Not sure how things work in your state...but here in PA, my kids had SSN's before they left the hospital...

Didn't have a choice...
Just part of the paperwork...

It'd be pretty interesting to have your child born in the USA and have them grow up without a SSN.

But your main job as a parent is to raise a child that will be more likely to pass your genes on successfully, and have your grandchild become more likely to pass on your genes.  I know that sounds like the FBI guy saying we're all just numbers in a system, but essentially that's the entire point of reproducing: make sure the kid passes on the genes.  Having a SSN is essential for operating in our system, so keeping her from having one reduces the chances she'll pass on your genes with a winner.

Problem with that is it isn't that hard to get on the internet and find out if the SSN is valid. The school my daughter is going to checked hers out right in front of me the day she registered.

Not true....If you have a valid DL and a birth certificate you're good to go...Look closely at the I-9 form from Uncle Sam. That's why so many illegals get regular jobs. It's easy to check a SSN to see if it's valid, but not so easy to check a birth certificate.

Just take somebody elses, there are tons of people with the same name, why not have the same info, its not that hard, really, the possibilities are endless.

You have the right to Life, LIBERTY, and the pursuit of happiness.  This doesn't happen with a SSN.  More paper leashes, number tracking, etc., etc., etc..  How is this freedom?

Govt. preserves govt., not personal freedom, if we comply we fail.  Govt. needs to track everything and be in control, otherwise it won't prevail.  Fight back by not listening, the more people we get to not comply, our minority becomes majority, thus becoming the unwritten norm.
