[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Need help solving a riddle.

My boss (a former accountant) put one of those "what's the next in the series" riddles up on the board where I work. I've been looking at it all day and I'm stumped. Does anyone have a guess, and if you know the answer...how did you solve it?

1, 14, 34, 57, 77, 88, 102, ?

Pretty much all I can see and what I think Kar saw is this.

1 14 34 57 77 88 102

the gaps would be in the following pattern

13 20 23 20 11 20 so continuing the pattern

115 135 158 gives you gaps of

13 20 23

Try thinking outside the math box.

Look at the shapes of the numbers not their values.

Think of the lenght of the words making the numbers not their values.

If you guys can't solve it using math use something else like art (shapes) or English (words).

Kar98 started the loop again

102+13=115+20=135+23=158

according to this theory the next number would be 178 then 189 then 203
