Quoted: you have access to the search feature, and this has been discussed quite a few times in the last 6 months. FYI: I see you don't know much about technology either... Technology changes every day for small electronics/computers. Prices and models/features change rapidly, so cameras that were "great" within the past six months may no longer be a good choice for the money and may already be discontinued... |

A few weeks back I picked up a Canon A80 from these guys. I picked it up for $327 shipped but they have since raised their price. http://www.inaox.com/ A great camera with plenty of features for the curious but not professional. Small enough to be portable but better features and a superior lens when compared to an Elph. - 4 Megapixels to give clear prints up to at least 8"x10" - 3X optical zoom - 320x240 movies with sound - various modes to best fit any picture-taking situation - up to 1/2000 sec shutter speed - full manual OR full auto controls (no $200 tax stamp needed [:D]), depending on your skill level and interest The best feature, IMHO, is the swivelling LCD. It lets you hold the camera above a crowd and still read the screen. You can also flip it 180 degrees and take a well-centered pic of you and a friend with no third party required. |

I have the 2.0 mp version of this camera. IT IS GREAT!! I can get pretty clear 8x10 prints with it. |

Except that over and over again for the last 6 months the same people keep recommending the same cameras. and in fact, there really hasn't been shit in the way of some great new breakthrough in digicams in the last 6 months. Some models that used to be 3 megapixels are now 4. Wow, big breakthrough, spend more money for resolution that 90% of users don't need. That's a great idea [rolleyes] |

Quoted: look at the new sony digicams, nice, i got a 5 megapixel for 285 I saw that at wally world yesterday, was 450, now 312 (with wally worlds return policy, a plus) but read reviews of ti that were less stellar than some others, basically, alot of pics became blurred by motion. Can you give me a review of yours. Also, if legs is happy with his kodak, that carrys alot of weight, cause I know he knows cameras. Legs, let me know how you like that. I am replacing a kodak, that took great pics at 1mp for years. TXL And thanks again to all for your inputs |

Choose the A60 2.0 mp, the A70 3.2 mp ($280), or the A80 depending on your need for mp and price range. The cameras are essentially the same except for the CCD sensor. I bought mine before the A80 came out, but I think for my needs the A70 will be all I need. Kent |

i like mine, the memory stick that comes with it only does hold 5 pics, so i spent another 60 on the 128 meg that does 55 5.0 megapixel pictures, it will record vieo with sound for about 10 minutes or so with the 128 meg strip in it, it makes very good, crystal clear pictures, i have no complaints, as for the moving pics being blurry... i have taken pics ov moving vehicles, as long as your lense is following the moving target it will be nice, the background will be blurred due to the movements, i have pics, they are 2.0 megs each or so if you want samples, i have no idea how to post em one thing that i do like is the fact that the batteries, and charger come with it, as with most other cameras, but this one has aa batteries, and you can use standard aa batteries in a pinch, it is lacking a bit in low light situations i guess, it has a lot of features, there is also one smaller, looks identicle to mine, but it uses rechargable aaa batteries cybershot 5.0 megapixels, i have the bigger one, but as far as the size goes, i could easily put 4-5 of them in my bdu cargo pocket on the leg |

Sony CD-Mavica. No connections necessary (although it comes with cables & can be connected if you prefer). Burns images (.JPG stills, .MPG video w/ sound) directly onto Mini-CDRW (150 - 180 MB) - take it out of the camera, drop it into your computer's CD drive, download/copy/print/etc. the pictures, then reuse the disc. I had the 400 at the office & loved it so much that I bought a 500 for myself when the baby got here. It IS a little bulkier than most of its competition (to accommodate the discs), but if the extra size doesn't bother you it is a great camera IMO. A brief review & pictures of the one I bought: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/cd500.html (Note: this is the 5 megapixel version - the 4 megapixel version has almost all of the same features & is available for considerably less $$$) |

Quoted: Quoted: I would get a Canon A70 in your case. I just bought an A60. The A70 just has more megapixles and a better zoom. I ordered a tele lens for it this weekend. Do either of these Canon digital cameras take the Canon AF series lenses? Inquiring Huns want to know! Have a look at dpreview.com as he does more than look at the numbers and actually does complete reviews. I just bought a 4 Mb Olympus E-10 because of the quality of the pictures rather than the number of megapixtels. It's one of the few highly recommended cameras on the web site. Another I was looking at was the Minolta A-1 and the Canon digital Rebel. Even at 4 megapixtels the pictures competely cover both of my 19" monitors - a virtual 2048 x 768 screen. I have a printer that can print out pictures 8x10" big which was fine with my 2Mb camera. I guess I need a $10,000 dye printer now to do posters with. |

Steve's Digicams is good but dpreview.com is great. I used both sites (and many others) while researching my cameras (Nikon Coolpix 950 and as of a year ago, a Coolpix 5700) and recommend them highly. I particularly like the head to head reviews as well as the downloadable picture samples from each camera they review on dpreview.com. Just from seeing sample pictures from other cameras I can heartily recommend any Canon offerings as well. jim |

I have the Minolta Dimage Z1. It is a great camera. Everone who tries it loves it. I bought it here: http://www.digitalfotoclub.com/sc/main_item.asp?id=964589034&rf=pg&dfdate=12_02_2003 If you call you may get a cheaper price. I did. Many movie modes with sound. |

Well, I just spent 10 minutes typing in shit, and my IE died. Thanks Bill G. Anyway, went with the Kodak 6340 (3mp, vs legs' 4mp). You guys may not know this, but Legs is an exceptional photographer, and I trust his choice. You should all ask him to see his serious work sometime. Also, he can do amazing things with digital photos, I encourage everyone to send him self portraits, and snapshots of yourself. I am replacing a kodak which gave me great pics, so it was not a hard decision. Got it at target (so I can return it if I want to), for $259. It makes videos, so the wife is happy (a big plus). Anyway, thanks one and all for your help, links, opinions, and more. TXL |

Noone mentioned that it *MAY* be beneficial to do your research NOW and buy LATER. The camera makers are having their 'shot show' this month (middle) and will be introducing new models. Canon (who I favor) is supposed to bring about 10+ new products on the market w/ new and improved features. That *MAY* cause prices to drop. My own research has been b/t the A80 and the G5. Both have dropped significantly in price even since c-mas. When reviewing at dpreview.com check out the pictures that people post using their specific product on the forums--ie Canon talk. |
| another vote for the canon powershot a70. in addition to a full suite of "big camera" features and stellar optics, the canons also excel in the battery consumption department. i've gotten 200 full resolution shots, 1/2 of with flash employed, on a single set of nimh batteries. may not matter to some folks, but if you do a lot of camping & exploring it's a nice bonus feature, one most folks don't think about until after they've plunked down their cash. |
