I scored a great deal on an open box(s) SKIL cordless powertool set-ups totalling 7 cordless and one corded units. All were LNIB and I got the bunch to include a killer canvas tool bag, for $150.00. This represents a savings of around $190! The only downside is that 4 of the tools are 18v (using the slider style batteries), I have scrounged two batteries, but the charger is MIA and calls to SKIL have been unsuccessful in locating this type of charger. This charger and batteries are made by Bosch and reports indicate a factory level back-order! (dammit!) The remaining 3 cordless tools are 14.4v (using the plunger style batteries) and I have been unable to score any new SKIL batteries or a charger. Does anyone know of a source for these chargers and batteries? Google returned 200+ pages and I waded through the first 15 pages or so and THAT is not the easy or good way to find these items. Failing a good retail source, is there anyone here that would want to sell the batteries and chargers for these tools? Thanks in advance. Not that nayone cares, but I was able to place an order with the Bosch factory for a charger. As this is a brand new item, there are none available for sale, all produced are set aside for placing in the retail tolls and tool kits. I should have one in a couple of weeks. |

There's a guy at the flea market that always has a shitload of batteries and chargers. Most are new or like new. I'll try to make it this weekend and see what he has and let you know. Also, I think a couple of the Subs at work have SKIL battery tools. I should see some of them the next coupla days and see if they know where to get some. |

Beggin to disagree, I think the guy that "gave you such a great deal" is the one that scored. That said on the batteries that are present and working, you should be able to make a generic charger work. Open it up and make run leads from it's contact leads to the battery contacts. You'll need to rig something to hold the new leads on the contacts. Check with RC Modeling or Ham Radio sources for chargers and or schematics. If you have any business radio types or alarm companies around they might have some charger ideas. If they are just dead you might be able to open them up and replace with new cells, and at the same time rig a plug and jack for charging. |

Quoted: Skill cordless tools are very cheap and without batteries and chargers, well..... Wiggy got hosed I was worried about that so I did a little research and found that SKIL knows it has image and reliability issues with their tools. In response they have divided their tools lines into two parts, the homeowner quality tools are the same SKIL products, BUT the contractor grade stuff is now built by the Robert Bosch Tool Co. These two kits I got at Lowe's are brand new SKIL items built by Bosch....in fact, the ordering process for accessories goes through the Bosch factory. The last time I checked Bosch was a reputable tool maker and known as a better-than-average quality tool maker. YMMV BTW, I DID get hosed, or did some hosing, but I did not need any batteries or chargers.[;)] |
