I opened my explorer today and about 75 pages opened up and as fast as i could close them they came back, i had to restart the computer to get rid of them. So WTF happened?
i've had no problems since.

Do a search for adaware, and spybot.  Download, install and run them both, and do so every 2 weeks or so, you won't have popup problems.

Did you try to get to a porn site? Some of those porn sites if will keep popping up windwos when you try to close the current one. If you visit them often, get the browser Opera instead of MS IE, under "file," "Quick Preferences," select "open requested pop-up windows only;"  that way you will only get the pop-ups if you conscientioiusly click on them, otherwise it will supress them.

Also in MS IE, if you type in a non-existant URL, the system sometimes takes you to this web site that also pops up alot of these windows.

kazaa will do it all the time.  Well not kazaa itself but something you downloaded with it had a passenger.

the computer tinfoil crowd will tell you it's the RIAA doing it but it isn't.  Just jokers.  But a lot of IT folks will tell you kazaa is linked to a lot of unecessary grief that folks without kazaa never seem to get.

I have a site that keeps trying to establish itself as my IE home page.  guess I better run the spybot again.  (I don't use IE or Outlook or any MS internet software I don't have to since it is the most attacked.)

If you have spyware and adware running in the background, a popup blocker will simply stop them from showing up but does nothing to address the root of the problem, that's why you have to get rid of them by the COMBINED use of adaware and spybot.  Adaware will detect things spybot doesn't, and vice versa.  Don't forget to keep them updated [:)]
