Back in my electricians days, I called them linesman's pliers, but lots of people called them Kleins, after the brand.

Would be dikes with an I, short for diagonal cutters, if it were in fact diagonal cutters. But they are not.
Dyke, with a Y, is a derogatory term for a lesbian.

I just don't need to go out of my way to sound like one of the old timers. I don't call my Fluke meter a "Fluke", either. It's just my meter.

I've always wondered about that. I wonder if it's a regional thing?

If you Google it, dykes are diagonal cutters - just like you said. However, I've always known lineman pliers as dykes.

Go figure

I have both in the tool pouch:

A quick search engine look shows nothing like the OP's pic as any of the first results, images included.

Kleins appears to be a common restaurant name, and granted, a tool maker. But calling those kleins is clearly a stretch.

I've been installing electrical hardware for 20 years.
For whatever reason I rarely see an electrician with linesman pliers. But everybody has a set of dikes on them.
Honestly I think, like the name suggest, we just never come across anything big enough for them to be of use.
I'd rather have a needle nose with a side cutter than that big bill.

I've got Kleins. Both the regular dark blue handled ones, and the big, honkin' ass orange safety handled ones. I hate using the ones with the orange handle but the safety fags on some jobs require it.
