My old computer is seeing its last days.
I worked on this piece of shit all night just
to get back online. Re-installed Windows because
IE is screwed. I have to cheat the explore to get
a browser window. But If I click on my IM, it hangs up still.
When I do a ctrl alt delete, it says
winserve is busy. Guess I will have to erase this
HD and do a clean install.

I forgot the key commands to go to dos to format
my HD. Can some one post the steps for me?
I will try and log on from work but, I can't surf
from work. Its a new job.

I have a new computer but haven't set it up for the internet.
The genius of SBC has a different modem for each
operating system. The new one has XP.

Don't know if I will be able to respond again. Got
lucky this morning. But I can see the site and can
read replies.

Thanks
Legs

My computer freezes up on me atleast once per day, sometimes two or three. I am nearing the time to destroying this piece of shit.

What you need is the file F-Disk.  DOwnlaod it and install on a Floppy then boot to floppy at start up.  Then run F-disk and format.

Or, if you are installing 2000 or XP then you can just format off of the CD.

Maybe you should invest in a wooden computer?

Strongly consider using Windows 2000.  It has proven the most stable for me and I even like it better than XP.

Just my .02 worth.

3.5" floppy of DOS 6.0 and ctrl alt del.

when it comes up...

format c: (or whatever drive it is)

In my case (my 3.5" in my Dell went south for the 2nd time) I'd try safe mode and then go to DOS, then format c: (or whatever).

My 'puter hates IE ever since phone lines got struck by lightning and burned out the internal modem.  I replaced it with an external (usb), and ever since it's really bitchy about connecting to every e-mail server I've had.  You have my sympathies...
