I am restoring a 1979 Ski doo Blizzar4d 7500. I have put new pistons, rings, crank bearings seals, rebuilt carbs. Basically everything in engine new.  Now my problem. Only fires on cyl. one when I make a 1/4-3/8 gap between plug wire and plug. When cap is on it does not fire. Make the gap runs killer! I have switched plug wires and cdi box does not make difference. Could it be a short/broke wire between cdi box and pick-up coil or just a bad coil? This is what I am doing in my spare time right now while business is slow. ALL help is greatly appreciated!  Thanks Brian

I know you said it's all new, but it sounds like a cylinder problem more than an electrical.
When a Cat pony motor is completely shot I have had to ark both plugs while someone else does the starting.
It sucks, but I would tear the cylinder back down and check it.

Is the plug coming out really wet? It could be a flooding problem. What is happening when you move the wire away is you are driving up the voltage across the plug. If its flooding on that cyl, that could explain the need for the extra voltage.
