I Think an Amber LED Strip on the wall and up which can 't be seen, just making thee wall lighter and an amber hue to the satellite would match what most movie pictures and mars rover pics of atmosphere looked like, we have blue sky from O₂, they have red from Fe₂O₃ haze which tints the light scattering a lot.
Like in the movie The Marian (but book was better). The lighting/tint can do a lot for the mood, I'd guess you know this as an art teacher.  |

I'm pretty sure they didn't ship a big, bulky item to Mars already assembled like that. It would have been shipped in 4 or 5 pieces, and once there, assembled on the surface, outside. I would think the easiest way to assemble such a lightweight piece of aluminum would be...
riveting.

Sunday Update 12/20
We got our Vortex banner back up with all of the signatures of those who have worked on the project so far.  I'm getting push back in over spraying the yellow on top of our satellite. We will see where that goes. The name plate is up in this photo.  Getting details on our satellite dish ready for paint.  Little sparkly.....  Center details. ....   |

12/23. Last update of the 2020 crazy Covid year.
Students are on now on break. Finals took up most of the time the last couple days. The name plate was not yet corrected.  Our iON blade is getting closer to ready for install.  Since I have so little to show for the project, more of the now finished Southwestern Elk project.   Check out the eyelashes and whiskers    I missed the best shot of this going down the crowded hallway to display, but you can still see it ....   He wouldn't fit in the wall.....too wide....

Update 1/6 We are back again! About 30 min before classes begin again. Most of my team is set to be here multiple hours of the day, so things should be fun as usual.
Hopefully we even get something done in that time. Now, on to our update..... WHO LET THIS GUY BACK IN HERE!!!!!!!!!  The model train that is supposed to run on a motion sensor has been giving our Computer Science and Robotics students a little bit of a fit. They are struggling. During our break, I got to give a tour again to a family friend who traveled up from Worland to see it. My youngest son, is still here for a few more weeks before he's off for his final semester at UW. Being a computer engineer, and seeing the project for the first time, he offered to help out.  He is going to get everything set up, then give a little presentation to the Computer Science classes next week when he knows everything works right. He is also working on getting our Space Tractor all set up. We hope that he can inspire, and get some of our younger students interested in how to do this, so they can help us next year, and continue the tradition. He says he's going to print a little box to get it all into and make it look pretty. Should be neat when done. He was having the program do a little weird crap last night. It didn't want to give power to the "reverse" mode. He was so consumed, I had to threaten to watch "The Expanse" on my own. I'm hoping he got it all figured out late last night.     |

Kind of a funny story that happened during our "tour". My youngest is still friends with the Computer Engineer for our Baldwin Locomotive. They run into each other on campus at UW. My son texted a video of the Locomotive, still turning it's wheels, and tooting it's horn, as it did when it was new. He texted my son that he was surprised it was still working, and no matter what happened to it, he was not ever coming back to fix it.
 I told my son to text him back that the Arfcommers all over the world would find him and send his butt back here to fix it when ever we needed.

Update 1/8
Our iOn Blade is moving right a long. It's always nice when your 2yr old 55in Visio dies ......and leaves you with a bunch of electronics that your son/Engineering student salivates over. He grabbed the boards for parts to salvage, and grabbed a few off of it for us to use on our project.  Our mostly symmetrical dish is done getting detailed....  Up goes the lift to get my student high enough to install. I have to control the lift from it's base(students aren't allowed to run the lift) so sometimes they spend a few extra minutes up there until they can get someone to come grab me to let them down.   Satellite has a new, corrected name plate and it's dish all installed. We are now done with that.  |

Er - why is the microwave antenna at the base of the dish, instead of in the feed horn?
Windshield wiper looks good. Someone's gonna have to dust the electronics regularly, of course, as the high voltage will attract the dust repelled by the wiper... |

Update 1/12
Arduino and motion senor are now up and working on our tractor. We will have to work on testing today, and get the speed of the wheels turned down. We are reworking our rear motor mount. It just isn't holding our motor secure enough, or square enough to the axle sprocket.  Since I have few photos from yesterday..... Here is a baby goat....... Kind of cool is the form for the head was sculpted off of a real scull; clay added to skull, then covered in bondo to create a casting form. The foam was then poured into the cast, and out comes a baby goat head form.This will be a soft/flexible mount.  I'm thinking we should name it "Goatboy"

Baby Goatboy is looking pretty cute, but I'm not sure if we can salvage it. It's starting to slip. It spend too many hours/days out in the field before we got it frozen.
 She needs to sew up the rest of the belly and legs, then work on carding the ears.

Video of our 1st attempt using the Arduino and motion sensor. We also dialed down the power to our front wheels to reduce their speed. We went a little overboard and you can tell in the video. We also greased the sprockets and drive shaft after this video. Increasing the power made it much more stable. We just need to make sure we don't go too fast and cause the chain to derail.

Baby GoatBoy is all sewn up. She needs to get the ears carded to shape properly. They didn't want to "turn" so we may run into problems with them not holding shape. Normally she would put ear liners inside of them, but the ears were starting to slip, so we are on plan B.

I remember you mentioning transfer case and didn't know if you were actually doing an entire drive train or not. |
