Dear fellow gunowner:

In less than two weeks from now, the state senate and the state assembly are
going to vote on the override of Governor Doyle's veto of SB214, the
Personal Protection Act concealed carry bill.

We now have the votes to override Doyle's veto. That is the honest-to-God
truth.

The trick in getting the override vote will be keeping the Democrat
legislators who voted for the bill from flip-flopping on their votes.
Governor Doyle is going to use every means at his disposal to threaten and
cajole these legislators to change their stance. Governor Doyle is a
powerful man, but he is just one man. We as gunowners number in the millions
in this state.

Some of these legislators are afraid of Governor Doyle. They need to know
that they should fear gunowners at the polls in November, not Doyle. He's a
one-term governor with little popularity.

In this last push to get concealed carry passed, we need to have volunteers
everywhere helping other gunowners to contact their legislators and apply
pressure.

To that end, we're once again asking for volunteers in four areas: Kenosha,
Sheboygan, Wausau and Stevens Point. We need volunteers with cell phones to
spend time in gun shops in these areas, getting customers to call their
senator and/or representative and leave a message. The job is so simple that
Anna Nicole Smith could do it. It just takes some of your time.

We have permission from the gun shops to do this. There's no schedule or
number of hours that you need to work. You can pick your time. If you don't
have unlimited minutes on your cell phone plan, the WCCA will reimburse you
for your costs.

If you have a cell phone and two, three or four hours to spare, please reply
to this.

Thanks,
The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association

Here's to hoping...

They intend to bring it to a vote exactly 1 week from today...

I have my CCW gun (Walther (real Walther) PPK), I'd just need to sign up for and take a training course, (And wait 'till May, due to the 5mo wait)...

Damn I hope you guys get it. We have a racist black asshat from Omaha that will do anything to us from getting it.  Seems that it's his District that causes all the crime...  He's a black barber.  Lots of credentials...

Gov Doyle is a career politician, completely out of touch with the rest of the state...

To get this, we're gonna have to ram it down his throat (veto override)...

To give you an idea, this guy vetoed a property tax freeze supported by at least 75% of the population... And got on TV feeling real good about himself, then leaned hard on the Dems to join ranks and oppose a veto override... All the sudden, the veto override fails by one vote...

He used to be attorney general, so you can draw your own assumptions about non-political leaning material if you wish...

This is the 'scary' thing here, this Gov has a near magical ability to produce (D) votes for his side on overrides...

(P.S. CCW in WI has a modicum of bi-partisan support. It's mostly a GOP bill, but in a state like this even Democrats can be pro-gun)...

that's what I'm afraid is going to happen. They just need one guy or so to "take one for the team" and the veto will stand.

The solution is simple, you guys have to put some heat under your legislators and keep their feet to the fire until it's over. Good Luck(actually luck has very little to do with it, it is just a lot of old-fashion blood, sweat & tears, ie WORK).

thanks RB,

I'm on it.

Why target only Kenosha, Sheboygan, Wausau and Stevens Point?

Because those are the areas represented by the shaky Democrat votes...

The cities of Milwaukee & Madison are the Governor's power-base, most of the rest of the state is a lock...

Politics here are so acrimonious that the Republicans have no reason to try and please the governor, so ALL of the GOP State Senators are onboard, and all but two of those in the Assembly...

We also have a number of Democrats who at least in the initial vote feared their constituents more than the Governor, and voted for the bill. After all, everyone who campaigned for gun control LOST in the last election (Doyle did not raise guns as a campaign issue, but we knew where he stood.)

The big deal here is that this issue WILL come down to no more than TWO votes. Basically, to whichever side (voters vs the Gov) does the better job putting the 'fear of God' into the swing reps...

Dear fellow gunowner:

Next week Wednesday, January 21st, the state Senate will vote on the
override of Governor Doyle's veto of the Personal Protection Act concealed
carry bill.

We have the votes to override Doyle's veto. An override requires 22 votes,
and we got 24 votes for the bill during the first go-round in the senate.
The trick is to keep at least four of the six Democrats who voted for the
bill on our side.

The way to do this--the only way--is to apply pressure by calling your
legislators and by showing up at the capitol for the vote. We need a massive
show of force. We need to have hundreds of supporters going to their
legislators' offices and sitting in the senate gallery. The NRA believes
that a massive show of force will give us the win we need.

For many of you, going to the capitol that day would mean using one of your
vacation or personal days to get off of work. Is it worth using a day of
vacation or personal time to be part of this show of force? The answer to
that question depends upon how much you value your freedom.

Last week, Ohio became the 46th state to pass a concealed carry law. That
leaves Wisconsin as one of just four states that prohibit their citizens
from having the means to defend themselves. If that doesn't make your blood
boil, what does?

This isn't just about carrying a gun when you're out in public. It's about
being able to carry a handgun in your jacket when you're out bowhunting in
bear country. It's about being able to have a weapon with you when you're
out trapping.

Nor is this just about guns. Probably half of the people receiving this
email carry knives in their pockets. That's illegal under current law.

And this isn't just about you. It's about your wives, your daughters, your
sisters, your nieces and other women in your life who need the ability to
protect themselves. It's about your friends and relatives who have a need to
be able to defend themselves but are denied the means to do so under current
law.

This is about changing a 130 year-old ban on concealed weapons that is so
confusing that it makes criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens.

The vote next Wednesday will make history. Whether history will show the
vote as a win or a loss depends very much on your presence at the capitol.

Please make every effort possible to be at the capitol by about 10am. Get
your friends to go with you. Set up a carpooling effort.

Make no mistake, we can win. But not without you.

[red]Below are the phone numbers of legislators who need to hear from you and
your friends. Call them, and get your friends to call. [/red]

We've come too far to lose.

Thanks,
The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association

Dear fellow gunowner:

Senator Russ Decker (Price, Rusk, Taylor, Marathon counties) thinks he's
found a way to flip-flop on his vote.

We have it on good authority that Senator Decker is preparing to tell
gunowners that he opposes the concealed carry bill because it will create a
statewide list of gunowners.

Horsehockey!

Under the Wisconsin bill, just as is the case in the other 46 concealed
carry states, only those who get permits will be on a list. In other words,
those people who apply for permits are choosing to be put on a list of
permit holders. Unlike some other states such as Ohio, Wisconsin's bill will
not allow those names to be made public.

Further, under the Wisconsin bill, there are no questions about whether or
not an applicant owns a gun. There may be some people applying for permits
who are doing so just to legally carry a knife or a billy club.

This is a cynical ploy by Senator Decker to try to pretend to be for the
rights of gunowners while simultaneously siding with anti-gun Governor
Doyle. He is trying to deny Wisconsin citizens the right to CHOOSE whether
or not to have the means to defend themselves.

Please call Senator Decker's office at 608-266-2502 and tell his staff that
you can see right through this scheme, and that you will not tolerate him
flip-flopping on the issue.

Thank you,
The Wisconsin Concealed Carry Association

It would do some good if the callers were from neighboring states (I'll let someone else post a US map [;)]) pledging to drive to his district to work gunshows, donate money, write letters etc. for any true pro-gun candidate running against him.

Unless, of course, he supports us in getting the PPA passed.

The legiscritters need to know that part of our legislative strength comes from drawing other RKBA supporters from other district.  Strength in numbers.

PS  On a side note, I wonder about the wisdom of putting this right before the State of the State address.  After all, Gov. Doyle is writing that speech and won't want his demmy tools to embarrass him on his big night.
