I think every time that man climbs out onto the field he breaks another record. Now I know there are some who don't like this man or say he's not #1 but I know they are just jealous.

While Favre is a good QB, I think everyone looks past his faults.  The guy gambles on plays a lot.  He throws passes that could either turn out really good, or really bad.  Some of them he makes, those are his ohh ahh plays.  Other times he'll throw 4 or 5 int's.  That's when the risk taking burns him.  People overlook the bad games he's had (and he's had some real stinkers).  I'm not saying he isn't a top flight NFL QB, just that he gets more credit than he deserves.

Favre is a good quarterback, but he still, even with all his experience, under pressure throws passes that he shouldn't, that often end up as interceptions.  If he could stop doing this he would be even better.

His numbers are great, but he's had a decent offensive line for quite a while, the team has a couple good backs and he has some decent receivers too.  And he's been playing quite a few years.  He's been lucky too.

You have to have followed Brett since his arrival at Green Bay to really get to know his game.  When he is hot, he is as hot as any QB ever and makes plays that nobody else in the history of football can make.  He is the only QB out there that will get pissed and grab a dirty playing 340# DT by the face mask and threaten to kick his ass, or run downfield and throw a hard hit on a big DE or linebacker and get up with an ear to ear grin.  He can throw a laser like fastball that breaks fingers without even thinking about it.  He can loft a touch pass as good as anyone.  He throws off his back foot and across his body better than anyone in history.  He throws on the run better than anyone.  He can improvise better than anyone.  He can shed would be tacklers in the pocket better than anyone.  Nobody in the NFL has more REAL, and HONEST heart and soul for the game and his team than Brett.  He has provided 10 years of drama and absolute amazement.  To have been in position to follow his career has been a blessing.  At times he does suck, but even when he sucks he is then just average and still at least as good as most other QB's in the league.  The 4 and 5 pick games, some come from poor decisions, but most of those picks come at the end of games where we just really don't have any other chance anyway.

He is as durable, old school, and just plain cool as they get.  He is also a big time hunter, and a shooter.  In fact, a coworker of my GF reported a few weeks back that someone knocked on her neighbor's door and asked permission to deer hunt on his farm, along with two friends.  The neighbor said "sure, just bring your friends to the house so I can meet them and lay down the rules".  Next day they show up....she didn't say who guy #1 was, but the other two were none other than Brett Favre and Doug Pederson.  This was the weekend of the big Thanksgiving game when the Pack laid a huge egg in Detroit.  They asked Brett "WTF happened the other day??".  His answer.....Gilbert Brown's mom (Brown is #93 DT) lives in Detroit and made a huge Thanksgiving meal for over 30 of the guys...on the day of the game.  They all stuffed themselves with turkey and fixin's so bad, they all wanted to just lay down and go to sleep.  Nobody could hardly move at game time.  Ha!  Pretty funny.

Go Pack!

Agreed.

He tries to force things when he gets pressured.  Sometimes it goes well and other times it totally backfires.  In my opinion the best of the best in the HOF don't have this characteristic.  Sure everyone makes a mistake, but Favre does this with some frequency.  It's funny, the announcers  never mention any of this when praising Favre....

All I know is that if the Packers or the Panthers make the SuperBowl, I will be rooting for the AFC, big-time...

As a Dallas fan in Cheese-wedgie land, I have little else to do with the rest of the season...

However, Farve has had an impressive career... I evaluate players on how they play football (being a fan of the now-dispersed 90's Cowboys evidences this)... His greatest strength and weakness is that he just keeps playing... Broken thumb, death in the family, whatever, the guy just keeps going... Of course, while this has its strong points, it also results in a bunch of games where a less-than-100% Farve is unable to carry the team... It's also the source of his most famous personal failing, an addiction to perscription drugs (in an effort to keep playing).

Even though I can't stand the Packers, I have to say they have one hell of a QB...

The thing to guess about is this: When Farve takes one too many knocks, will he follow TA to the booth, or will he just take an extended fishing trip?

Favre has spoken quite a bit with the media about his plans.  He will retire to his spread in Mississippi, and ride around on his tractor, play with his kids, shoot turkeys and deer, and maybe coach high school ball.  And you are right...there have been times that he could not carry the team.  But there is no "I" in team, if it comes to your QB having to carry the team then the team has serious problems.  Like the Pack earlier in the year.  Now that we can actually generate pressure at the line on "D" with Grady Jackson, and our recievers are starting to get with the program, GB can actually compete and Favre can open it up.  Favre was better in 95 and 96 because he had a better overall team.  Just ask Ron Wolf.  Personally, I think GB's offensive coordinator is, well, offensive.  He seems to sometimes have problems adjusting to game events in real time and planning his game around his actual talent level.  And Ed Donatell (the defensive coordinator) doesn't impress me a whole lot.  His (and Mike Sherman's) fascination with "smaller but quicker" players gave GB Jamal Reynolds, and left them without any real power and meat on the defensive line for the last few years.  Yeah, OK....somebody look at the GB defensive stats from 1995 and 96, then go back in time to 1995 and tell Reggie White, Gilbert Brown, Santana Dotson, and Sean Jones that that they are too big and heavy to be effective.  And it seems that Donatell always goes conservative and runs prevent toward the end of games when the score is close.  He has a "bend but don't break" philosophy that seems to backfire on the Pack in the last 2 minutes almost everytime.  Screw that crap, play cutthroat, kick ass defense and let the chips fall.  I get tired of seeing GB's opponents get the ball with 2 minutes or less to play, down by 2, 3 or whatever, and marching all the way down the field in three plays against the prevent D to take the game away.

Dave, I remember you mentioning that you are a Cowboy fan.  Ha!  Damn Cowboys D lineman cut blocked Aaron Taylor out of a playoff game in what was it....93?  I've hated the Cowboys since.

Of course, they came to Lambeau the next season for the playoffs and we stomped them silly!  [:D]

Well I grew up in the town in which Brett now resides ( Hattiesburg ) and have followed hem since playing at Southern Miss which is there in Hattiesburg and he is a cool guy and very friendly.  Yes he does throw into coverage that shouldn't thrown into but hey thats why he's Brett Favre, he doesn't know how to play a conserative game.

The Packers did alright and squeaked by yesterday.  I'm not a Favre fan, but he works well with the team and that makes the difference.  When the QB and team don't connect, the team doesn't go far regardless of the QB.

However, I have to say...

Favre didn't lose that game.  Our defense allowing the Chickens to complete a first down pass on 4th and 26 in the last few minutes of the game did.  That happened at least four times this year.  And happily, Ed Donatell is now GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
