Now maybe if USC played a conference championship, or maybe if they hadn't lost to an unranked team, or maybe if they didn't have the weakest schedule of the top 3, then I'd say they have a point.  But they don't!

Computers don't take into account the fact that USC is from southern California, home of all the media sportswriters, eager to spite the BCS.  I hope USC gets nailed by the next terrorist plane which triggers a massive earthquake that sends half of Cali floating into the Pacific!  Fuck OU!

I understand LSU's anger. The BCS robbed them of a chance to be number one by putting them up against USC. Only playing Oklahoma, they only have a chance of ending the year number two. They could be the one team that could have a chance of beating USC. But they are not going to get a chance to prove it.

WAH HA HA!!!
You are ignorent.

All the sports writers live in NEW YORK or CHICAGO. All the TV studios are in NEW YORK CITY

even ESPN is in Bristol CT.

And they ALWAYS underrate the California teams, ALWAYS

It is just showing how plainly WRONG the BCS is that they are unanimously opposing Oklahoma remaining number one after losing to lowly Kansas State and backing the "spoiled city boys and surfer kids" of USC in this.

They all however also agree that LSU was robbed by not getting to play USC. Even USC feels robbed by not getting to play LSU

LSU will destroy Oklahoma by the way.

USC talked all the crap about bring on OU or LSU and we will show you the real champs and all that crap anytime anywhere.
Well last week OU's AD called USC's AD and asked if they would accept a challenge to play them after the season in the Black Coaches Exhibition sort of game and of course USC would not accept.

Of all the most annoying things to find replacing a perfectly good TV schedule...

COLLEGE FOOTBALL! Well, at least there won't be any more till next year soon...

There are only 2 things worse: (a) NBA Basketball, and (b) College Basketball!

Football is fun to watch, when it's the NFL... Basketball is intolerable in any form...

Being 'college' just makes it worse, as it seems every championship is decided by committee... Not wins/losses, but 'so-and-so ranks (whatever) in the polls'... It's the ultimate politically correct, subjectivization
of sports...

And of all the times for ABC to have it on, right in the middle of a decent TV lineup...

Ugh...

Very funny... Alias and 10-8, more accurately...

For me, the football season ended yesterday night... I'll be back to watch the SuperBowl, esp if Carolina makes it that far (Go AFC, in that case!), but that's about it...

Thats funny how everyone thinks Michigan was a patsy to play against.  They were ranked number 4 in all the polls. They had a far more difficult schedule according to the BCS than LSU did (almost rated as difficult as Oklahoma) and they beat Ohio State who had the toughest schedule according to the BCS of the top 25 teams.  For the record, all you LSU faced a tough schedule proponents. Out of the top 10 only USC and Tennessee had a weaker schedule than LSU according to the BCS.

You are not paying attention. USC played the game against the people they were told to play.
And also, the BCS agreement expires in 2005, now is the time to correct this sort of thing because right now it IS TIME TO CHANGE THE RULES.

But they were robbed, and EVERYONE knows they were. And right now BOTH LSU and Oklahoma are proving it. This Sugar Bowl sucks. Look at all the fumbles and penalties from both teams. Playing the way they are now both these teams would have a hard time beating Michigan, much less USC.

First you have to show me one press release out of USC, or one quote from any of their staff, complaining about anything. They University has said nothing of the sort.

They were robbed, and so by the way was LSU, and the media know it and the fans know it. LSU and USC are going to go down as co-champions this year in the books of everyone except the BCS staff. And unless the BCS changes their scoring system to avoid this in the future, in two years when the contract expires there will BE no BCS, and this will be nothing but a bad memory.

You aren't watching this Sugar Bowl are you?

To jump USC in the Coaches and Media polls, LSU would have to beat Oklahoma by a bigger margin than USC beat Michigan.

And unless they make major changes in this half they are playing too sloppy to do that.

Though they are giving it a good try, 2nd play of 2nd half they intercept a Jason White pass and ran it back for a touchdown, just now.

Well, Condom boys, it's like this:

Like it or not, ALL major schools decided to live (or die) by the [s]BCS[/s] BS, so even though USC is an excellent team, they deserve to be crowned PAC 10 Champs and Rose Bowl Champs. NOTHING MORE. Period.

Sucks Huh?. But that's the agreement that the school agreed to. Eats ass, without a playoff, don't it?????? But that's the way it fuckin' is, to quote Walter Cronkite (liberal asshole).

And it looks like an SEC school will win it all and frankly, USC would be, oh, an Insight.com bowl school at best if they had to play an SEC (or a BIG 12 for that matter) schedule.

So my suggestion is that all you Condoms from SoCal run out to Lowe's, buy yourself some wood and some nails, and build a bridge and get the fuck over it...Oklahoma or LSU WILL be the National Champion. Don't like it? Tough Shit. Work for a playoff, or stop Bitchin' about a system that all major schoools agreed to abide by, fucked up and stupid as it is.

Bzzt....I'm fairly certain there will be one AP/Coaches Poll National Champion and one BCS Champion.

The problem is, LSU the obvious #2, should have played USC an arguable #1.

Now you will never know if USC would have beat LSU, or if LSU would have beat USC.

Just can't know...stupid.

Split champion....BCS is dead as of tonight 21 minutes more playing time.

Actually- they may luck out.

If LSU beats Oklahoma by more than 14 points, the margin of victory in the USC/Michigan gam the coaches and media polls might make them number one too.

That might just save the BCS's ass.

The BCS knows its got problems by the way and are already going to make rule changes for next year.
Several Changes to BCS on Table for Next Season
NCAA Basketball Tournament-Style Committee Possible
By PAUL NEWBERRY, AP SPORTS

NEW ORLEANS (Jan. 4) -- Conceding "we made a mistake," the head of the BCS said an NCAA basketball tournament-style committee might become part of the selection process next season -- reducing the possibility of a split national championship in football.

Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese said Sunday several issues will be discussed in the coming months, including eliminating computers from the selection process and adding an extra Bowl Championship Series game.

Tranghese, coordinator of the BCS as part of a rotation among the six major football conferences, doesn't have the power to impose any changes on his own. But his comments indicated some possibilities to improve the system.

The BCS came under intense criticism this season when USC, ranked No. 1 by the media and the coaches, was bypassed for Sunday night's Sugar Bowl. The Trojans were expected to remain first in the Associated Press poll after an impressive victory over Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

Oklahoma and LSU, which finished 1-2 in the BCS rankings, were invited to the Sugar Bowl, with the winner assured of getting the top spot in the coaches' poll.

It's precisely the sort of co-championship the BCS was supposed to eliminate.

"We've got a system that somehow leaves the No. 1 team in both human polls out of the championship game," Tranghese told a group of football writers. "We've got to do something."

One method for addressing several different proposals is to set up a panel modeled after the one that selects the field for the 65-team NCAA basketball tournament. While the BCS poll would remain in effect, the committee could get together at the end of the regular season to determine which teams play for the national championship.

If such a committee had been in place this season, it could have overruled the BCS standings, pointing to Oklahoma's 35-7 loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game. LSU and Southern Cal, which each lost games earlier in the season, would have met in New Orleans.

Oklahoma held No. 1 in the BCS based on its strength in the computer rankings.

"Computers don't calculate when you lose a game," said Tranghese, coordinator of the BCS as part of a rotation among the six major football conferences. "The polls are a reflection of your performance from week to week. We should have thought of that. We made a mistake, and we should be criticized."

He said the BCS would discuss several options for tweaking the system, such as requiring a team to win its own conference to qualify for the national championship game.

Tranghese favors eliminating the computers altogether, perhaps keeping a scaled-back ranking system that incorporates the two major polls and the other factors already in place -- strength of schedule, losses and quality wins.

"Get rid of the computers," he said. "I hate those things."

A committee -- perhaps made up of representatives from the six conferences -- could oversee the selection process. But no system is perfect, Tranghese stressed.

"We've not even faced the ultimate problem," he said later outside the room, talking with a smaller group of reporters. "What if we have three undefeated teams? What if we have three teams with one loss, but none of them lost at the end of the year?"

On top of everything else, the non-BCS conferences are pushing for a greater role, having been shut out of the lucrative system that started in 1998.

"We're trying to open the door wider," Tranghese said.

But he also said the major conferences would retain their BCS dominance. "Do you really think there are teams out there that we left out that could have won the national championship?" he asked.

"We've got a system that somehow leaves the No. 1 team in both human polls out of the championship game. We've got to do something."
-Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese

Tranghese also raised the possibility of changing the BCS name when the contract with ABC-TV ends following the 2005 season, even if the network wants to keep the moniker for marketing purposes.

"It's taken on a life of it own," he said. "Let's get one thing straight: We will determine what the name is, not ABC. If we decide to call it XYZ, it will be XYZ."

Tranghese said the BCS had no role in the coaches' guaranteeing their No. 1 spot to the winner of the BCS championship game. He described that as an arrangement between the American Football Coaches Association and the coaches poll.

Some coaches who voted USC No. 1 have grumbled about having to drop the Trojans on their final ballot.

"There's no rationale explanation for that, but we didn't make the deal," Tranghese said. "The coaches need to look in the mirror and say, 'I didn't know this?' They did know it. They just didn't think it through."

As for a playoff: No chance. Tranghese said college presidents won't allow BCS leaders to even discuss it -- even though a playoff would likely generate more revenue than the current 28-bowl system.

"If we could blow up the bowls and have a full-blown playoff system, just see how much money we could make," he said. "But it's not about money. It's about providing a lot of kids with a chance to play in a bowl."

a lot of articles say that there will be a split
anyway. They are saying at that as of now Michigan was a better team than OU or LSU. OU was crushed by K State, Ohio State beat K state, Iowa killed Florida , who beat LSU, Iowa and Ohio State were both beaten by Michigan who was thumped by USC in the Rose bowl.
Try following that.

By no means am i an expert
I watched OU a bunch, the QB is not the same player he was earlier in the year, injured?
LSU has gotten better every week since they got lucky in the first Georgia game. And deserve to be playing for the title.

OU and LSU have excellent defenses, but i think its their offenses that do not match up with USC, i dont see either team scoring enough to beat USC nor do i see them shutting USC down.

They have developed a great system out there, this kid Leinart had a better year than Carson Palmer.

The thing I notice most from this Sugar Bowl compared to the Rose Bowl are all the fumbles, drops, intercpetions and especally penalites.

LSU has as many penalty yards as Michigan and USC combined, Oklahoma has almost twice that. The level of sloppyness is what I think would torpedo these teams against USC.

I agree,OU and LSU are playing very sloppy, they have no balance either.

right now im watching 2 very good defenses against 2 very average offenses

USC has a good defense, and excellent D line, a huge O line, 2 great receivers, good running backs and an excellent QB

Would it be such a big deal to have a playoff game next week.

It's over.  OU sure didn't play like a #1 team and LSU stumbled their way past them.  They might have won but they sure didn't put away a lesser team the way they should have.

Neither played like a National Champion.  SC is going to get the votes.

OU lost the game more the LSU won it.  Way too many mistakes.

LSU dominated the whole game.  A 30 yard penalty on a field goal was the turning point for a potential comeback for the Sooners.  This game could have just as easily ended 35-7.  Too bad it didn't.  I really wish that LSU and USC could play eachother.  I still say no matter how you slice it, LSU is ahead of USC in every aspect as far as stats go.  LSU's been under rated all season.  These all-knowing sportswriters said Georgia was going to win both times around, and they also favored Ole Miss and Eli.  I think the Tigers have proven themselves as national champs, and we don't give a damn what some faggot ass sportswriters from Los Angeles say.  The trophy's down here!  Geaux Tigers!

It was'nt a "sloppy" game...it was a defensive struggle. LSU should have probably won by 17 points, but the mistakes allowed OU back in the ballgame. LSU dominated OU for three quarters...ou know that, you saw the game.

Now, about USC...right now, I think LSU's defense can (read did) stop anyone in the nation from scoring more than their average 10 points per game. What is refreshing is to see "David" spank Goliath in college football. OU just got beat...gone are the overkill days of beating A&M by 70 points "running up the core"..tonight, they just got outplayed by a damn good team.

Here I am one to talk...Miami has beaten my Noles 5 straight times. Of course it does'nt hurt to have the village idiot "JEFF BOWDEN" running the offense either. He ran 11 passing plays against Miami. I am off topic now.

Congrats to the Bayou Tigers..great win. You beat the supposed best team of the century tonight.

Winning a game by only one touchdown when most of the scoring on both sides is due to turnovers or mistakes by the other team shows that neither offense ever got off the ground.  USC would have slaughtered either if they didn't play any better than that.  OU finished it's season with two losses and LSU barely beat them.

The fiasco of the BCS is shown by the happenstance that Boise State's last game point spread was what kept SC from #1.  Which a gleeful Boise State alum was happy to point out at church.

Let's see what the Coaches have to say in their votes.

If you watched the game you would have seen that LSU's offense and defense dominated the game for 3 solid quarters.

I find it funny that people think USC should be national champs because they beat Michigan, when the final coaches poll puts Michigan at #7 and Georgia at #6, who LSU spanked in the SEC championship.  Go figure.

Where're all of the "we" fuckers now? Fair weathered bastards don't want to say "we" when it includes LOSERS who couldn't win their conference title or the pseudo championship game that they politicked their way into only to LOSE. HA-FUCKING-HA!!! The local news is mighty damned quiet right now. Thank God.

Academy has been running these incredibly obnoxious radio ads for the past couple of weeks about how they would open up, regardless of how late the game ended, when OU walked off of the field as "national champs," so that their pathetic fans could buy some obnoxious Sugar Bowl "National Champion" sportsgear. How many of you fair weathered fuckers showed up for that?
