I just don't understand what the fuck the Giants long-term plan is. I mean, as a Cowboys fan, that makes me happy, but now they still don't have a plan at QB, no WR1, a ton of dead money sunk into OBJ, etc. By the time they can come out of a rebuild, Barkley will be exiting his rookie deal and wanting to get paid.
Part of the reason the Pats are a dynasty is they never overpay for free agents, or enter into stupid long term contracts. |

Even if he doesn't meet the incentives for whatever reason (and assuming the 70M number doesn't already include those same kind of incentives) it's not much less. It's not enough to make up for losing the money he would have got this year, but at the same time he didnt get hurt and lose his chance to turn 18M (IIRC?) into 35M. |

Two teams that look significantly worse on paper today vs. last week: Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. Miami looks like a dumpster fire, but both the Jets and Bills appear to have gained ground on New England, with the Jets having done more between the two. |

It's not enough to make up for losing the money he would have got this year, but at the same time he didnt get hurt and lose his chance to turn 18M (IIRC?) into 35M. We even discussed it in last year's thread, where I stated as early as November that it was a smart move because even if he settled for less than the 14.5 million guaranteed by the franchise tag he would still make 12-14 million a year and could get himself a 4-6 year deal with more than 50% guaranteed. Now look what happened, he "settled" for a 4 year deal, 13 million a year with incentives up to OVER 15 million a year with more than half of it guaranteed. Meanwhile the mouth breathers in here were all jumping down Bell's throat because they don't know shit aside from the game and can't realize business is business. Bell proved his point. He is guaranteed more money while giving up very very little per season money while having incentives that will make it possible for him to make MORE per season money. Fuck the Steelers for making this a personal war last year. They deserve everything that is happening to them now and more. |

So what happened? How did everything go so wrong that the Giants were willing to ship Beckham away less than seven months after giving him a five-year, $90 million contract? "He had become too much of a pain in the ass," said one source familiar with the situation. "And there was a real fear that eventually it would get worse." That is as good an explanation for any for why the Giants sent the 26-year-old Beckham to the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday night for a first-round pick (17th overall), a third-round pick and safety Jabrill Peppers. It was "absolutely not a football decision," according to one team source. The Giants are well aware that replacing Beckham on the field might be impossible. But off the field they had grown tired of dealing with his headaches, and as Gettleman explained to reporters at the NFL scouting combine two weeks ago, "part of the responsibility of a general manager is to eliminate distractions." Beckham had become a lightning rod in New York, and no matter how the Giants tried to manage him, they couldn't keep him out of the spotlight. "You've got to eliminate distractions," Gettleman said at the combine, and not specifically about Beckham. "There used to be a thing I used to call 'the a--hole quotient.' The bigger the a--hole you are, the better the player you had to be. Plain and simple. It's funny (but) it's true. It really is. Think of the great players that you've seen around the league who have been just complete jerks. At the end of the day, what was the sum total of their career and their effect on their teams?"
