customer of mine wants a .357/.38 snub nosed revolver for his wife for christmas.  needs to be at the lower end of the price spectrum (he wants to pay $350 total and he's a good enough friend to warrant little to no profit on the gun)

so what the hell is out there and what would you recommend?  as of now im leaning towards a taurus 605 2" .357/.38 SS

It's Aluminum and Titanium.
It has the ported barrel, comes in the factory box, with keys, paperwork, orange gizmo, etc...

I really like my early fifties vintage colt cobra...it has an aluminum frame and is six shot vs 5 for a smith. I paid $250 for it. BTW, it's only good for .38spl, but it's pretty accurate.

A model 36 S & W. It's a great little 5 shot revolver. I love mine. I'm not sure a new one is in your price range though.

Funny timing - my wife told me she wants a Ruger SP-101 for a carry gun so, of course, Santa bought one last week. Stainless, 2 1/4" bbl, .357. Downsides are that it's a little heavy, it's only a 5-shot and it's got a bad case of "Ruger trigger".

You mentioned snubby-length barrel but what about frame size? God knows there are enough good-quality, used S&Ws, both J- and K-frames out there. Haven't had the pleasure of shooting any Colts but I've heard good things about the old Detective specials (and Cobras).

Taurus 85.

I got one w/a 2" barrel. Anyone know where I can get a 3" barrel for it?

BTW, I like it for carry.

I picked this up for $200 from a friend.
Also my carry pistol.

You need to understand, if your going to shoot .357, the slight extra weight goes a long ways.

While you're considering Rugers, don't forget the GP-100. Should be able to pick up a NIB stainless model for right around $350; blued for even less. I don't think you'll find a more rugged, better-finished revolver for the money.
