This was posted on Subguns. Thought you guys might like to read it..

Quote from PLAYBOY magazine, January 2004 “50th Anniversary Issue”, page 66:

“GUN CONTROL. When we began: Playboy tried to distinguish itself from the men’s magazines of the 1950’s that showed hunters thrashing around in the bush. Instead we devoted the magazine to indoor sports. In 1963 few states had gun control laws. The Gun Control Act of 1968 prohibited felons, fugitives, drug addicts, monors, the mentally ill and undocumented aliens, among others, from owning guns. It also banned mail-order sales, mandated that all guns have serial numbers and required dealers to keep records of every sale for review by federal agents. At the time we wrote, “We don’t think proposals for firearms control and registration are any more antigun than laws requiring automobile registration are anti-car. To say that crime prevention efforts should be directed not at the weapon but at the criminal who wields it overlooks the fact that the gun is the most effective all-around tool ever devised for individual killing.

Behind the scenes: The Foundation gave a grant in 1976 to the National Council to Control Handguns (later Handgun Control, Inc.) the chief nemesis of the National Rifle Association. In 1981, following the murder of John Lennon and the attempted assassination of President Reagan, the magazine published a public service ad for the group that cited the number of homicides in various countries (the U.S. topped the list with 10,728, and the next closest country, Japan, had 48) above the slogan STOP HANDGUNS BEFORE THEY STOP YOU. Outraged readers asked how we could defend the First Amendment so fervently yet “abandon” the Second.

Where we stand: We continue to support reasonable gun control. Unlike a bullet, words going in one ear and out the other have never killed anyone. In 1993, Congress began requiring that licensed dealers to background checks on potential customers. In 1994 it banned 19 types of assault weapons. Handgun Control, now the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, is currently pushing a law that would limit handgun purchases to one per person per month.”

Today at school we had to do a timed writing (5 para. essay)

Apparently pretty big deal, took up about an hour and 45 minutes and interfeared with basically every class of the day.

Prompt was "If you could ban/stop anything in the world, what would it be?"

I made it a rather in-depth anti-gun control paper [:D]

Funny I never relied on Playboy for my interest in the shooting sports before.

I always had others things on my mind [:P]

I was reading that very same issue, and article, while chilling at my local cigar shop.  I'd just finished two extremely negative comments about Ronald Reagan when I read that item.  I put the magazine down immediately.  I hadn't looked at a Playboy in over ten years, but I now remember why.

It's just a magazine with tits.  Anybody who tries to make the point otherwise, by citing the "inciteful" articles and interviews, is full of shit.

They are the same clowns who defend a picture of a naked woman as 'political speech', therefore falling under the auspices of the First Amendment.
Never figured out exactly what political statement a naked woman made.
But only AFTER I looked at the pictures.  I wasn't thinking about the political implications of bare breasts while I was looking at them.

I guess them f*ckers never heard of "inciting a riot" with words or speaches which sometimes leads to deaths. Sometimes thats all it takes. Oh but you can't say that because everyones responsible for thier own actions, you cant hold me accountable for what I say.  Now put that same statement next to gun control and it pretty much says the same thing. Hypocrite f*ckers.

Somebody should inform the chinese, nazis, and soviets that the spread of ideas isn't supposed to be dangerous.  Someone left them out of the loop.

charles manson, jim jones(right?) and the hail bop comet cult all incited acts of murder/suicide with words alone.

inanimate objects cannot tell people what to do or instill the will to kill.

i'm willing to bet a boatload of people have been stoned to death.  when stones are outlawed, only outlaws will have stones.
