A Christmas present from Ian.
Kraut Space Magic: the H&K G11 |
|
Just got done watching it.
Fascinating. There are very few truly unique weapons in the world, and as far as I know that one completely erased the drawing board before they started. |
|
I shot the ever-lovin' hell out of that rifle in CoD: Black Ops I.

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
It's finally here! I must get a suitable companion drink. |
|
As someone in the comments said, it looks sci-fi on the outside, and steampunk on the inside.
Between this and Garand Thumb dropping a video review of the Hi Point C9 today, it's a good gun YouTube Christmas. |

I remember reading a Clive Cussler book when I was younger where the G11 was prominently featured. I've been fascinated with them ever since.

Really cool video and a great idea for a rifle.
I can only imagine how that complicated mechanism would work after being dropped in the mud, or how that flimsy wind up charging handle would hold up after being issued to a platoon of Marines for a week or so. Still a really interesting gun. I’m not so sure how it would’ve fared in the real world though. |

As an armorer, i'm gonna have nightmares over those internals

Yeah, that flappy thing doesn't look like it would last long. |
|
Both videos were fantastic! Thanks for posting them.
In the late 70s through the 80s Guns and Ammo magazine would run articles on it that always kept me fascinated. Or was great to see Ian's video and the see it firing. |

Doubt it. I would like a single round for collector purposes. Wouldn't even know where to look. Old Western Scrounger? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

at the demonstration action being engraved "Jim's Toy" on the barrel blank, around 23:30.

Great video, always wondered exactly how that thing worked. I like the magazine idea, just carry them on the rifle and carry plastic reloads in your pouches....very quick reloading process.
|
|
Very cool video with its history, and especially the demonstration of how the action works.
The 2nd video of it firing, looks like a significant amount of recoil with the whole mass of the action and barrel reciprocating. |

Caseless ammo overheats any weapon. brass cases act like a heat sink.

Here's some 3 round burst action on video...note that the recoil looks like what you'd get if you handed a tiny female a 12 gauge loaded with 3" magnums:
Heckler & Koch G11 Assault Rifle |
|
The recoil from a 3 rd burst, l imagine, would be "stronger" since out has the energy of three rounds.
But the rest of that video looks like people who've never shoot a gun in they're lives. |

Except Germany is broke. A lot of their Leopard tanks aren't runners. A lot of ground aircraft. View Quote What they wanted. G11s. A unified and harmonious Germany and Europe. What they got. Oh there's a few things that could fill this image. Merkel is the most obvious one. Perhaps a headline about how stabbings in Germany are up 900% |

Caseless ammo is a cool concept. Not sure it could ever overtake the currently used tech, but I would like to see it developed more than it has. Seems like they gave up on it and that was the end.

Wow, great watch.
Always knew "of" the G11 Didnt know exactly how it worked, or that they ordered it adopted by the Bundeswehr |
|
I had no idea they were so rube goldberg inside.
I always assumed it ran on electrical power or something which is why it was only ever a prototype. |

Good grief what a convoluted mess that could only be dreamt up by Germans. Never saw one broken down until now.
Neat video. |
