Solid front axles suck.  I own a Wrangler despite the solid front axle, not because of it. Do you see any solid front axles on the most capable off-road vehicles available, like desert racing trucks or SxS ATVs?  Nope.  The only reason Jeeps still have them is to satisfy the traditionalists.  Time to move forward.

The vast majority of Wrangler owners will never go "rock crawling" with it, and would be far better off with IFS.  For most owners, their off-road activities will consist of driving it out to the dunes or beach on a weekend, or down a two-track to their hunting shack, but they won't intentionally smash it up on rocks every weekend.  Also, "sucks" is a strong word.  A well set up Polaris Razor will kick a Jeep's ass down any rocky trail, even with IFS.

The vast majority of Ford Raptor owners don't go jumping dunes at a huckfest. (and if they did they would get their ass handed to them by much cheaper prerunner trucks with twice the suspension travel)
The vast majority of sports car owners don't take their cars to track days, or a drag strip.
The vast majority of Mercedes Gelandewagen (also still have solid axles, so does the Unimog) and Hummer/Humvee owners don't go invading the neighboring country.
The vast majority of Wrangler owners probably shouldn't have bought a Wrangler, but they are buying the image. And that image involves solid axles. It is what makes them so easy to offroad and modify. The newest Wranglers have been purposefully designed to be modified, and fit 33 to 35" (Rubicon) tires stock. The aftermarket is the biggest driver on price and resale with these things. Jeep/Chrysler would have to be brain dead to change the formula. They are selling a 1/4 million a year. This generation is supposed to be the 'best riding', but as far as the SFA goes, they will ignore the soccer moms and yuppies bitching about ride quality for the foreseeable future and continue to print money with these things.

The Polaris can sometimes best a Jeep because it is MUCH SMALLER and MUCH LIGHTER (a 1940s Willys or Jeep CJ2A/CJ3A/CJ3B etc can for the same reason). On some trails they are simply TOO small. You can't climb what you can't fit over or fall in to. Lots of broken stuff like front diffs when they run parts of the Rubicon trial etc. Someone needs to call up pro rock crawlers and tell them they need to start running Polaris Razors

Yes, we do. The JT will have a removable hard top and doors just like the JL. It's been confirmed and verified via spy shots. Everything else you said is dumb.

Jeep reliability, or to say, non-reliability, concerns me.  Just saw Consumer's Reports reliability ratings, and Jeep, as a whole, does not fare well, at all.  Frankly, in my memory, it hasn't fared well for quite a long time.

I get it about re-sale values of Jeeps, at least some Jeeps.  That tells me that prospective Jeep buyers are not prioritizing reliability.

No insult intended to Jeep owners/fans.
Jeep unreliability goes back decades.  It's never changed I guess because they keep selling.
He needs to consider the source, as well.  Consumer Reports is notoriously biased against American brands, and their methodology is questionable at best.
It's been getting better, but I can't take anyone seriously who tries to argue that Jeep reliability is awesome.  They are uniquely useful vehicles, a lot of fun, not hard to fix, and the 3.6's have mostly been OK.   But they are not on par with the better imports.

Maybe they actually got the JL hardtops to not leak, finally.   They sure as hell never managed it with the JK's.

...

Wheelbase on this thing looks silly-long, unless it's some sort of optical illusion.    Not much reason to go for one over a lightly built mid-size pickup if the wheelbase is longer.

They'll probably sell every one they make though.

Unlike a lot of other arfcomisms, the mall crawler stereotype is a legitimately accurate stereotype.   Especially for wranglers.

I almost never see a stock wrangler anymore.  Its got about 20k worth of bolt on accessories, and never leaves the black top.  ALWAYS seen pristine with nary a smudge.

I don't hate, but jealous they have the money to spend so frivolously on unused accessories.  One could have a lot of fun taking mall crawlers out for what they're supposed to be doing.

It's a shame they will never use em to their capacity.

Solid axles are simpler and more durable.  They have less moving parts and are less inclined to squeak over time.  You asking for Jeep, or even Ford and RAM, to get rid of solid front axles is like asking for America to be more like Europe.  You have your IFS options.  Stop trying to force your preferences on everyone else.

You're dead to me.

Once upon a time crawler.  Should have bought a Toyota when I was 16.  I passed up one on the same lot as the first Mazda I saw and it was probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life.  I would still have it had I bought the Toyota...  The Mazda had a slip yoke front output on the transfer case so I had to rig all this up.  I ended up unbolting everything of value and scraping the rest.  Poorly set up divorced t-case kept stripping out every bolt hole in the trans from vibration.

JL frame is too short for this truck, and the suspension setup is different. JT frame is 18% longer. This is a legit mid size truck, not just a JL with a bed slapped on.

You would be wrong.  The manufacturers have to pay penalties for not meeting the standards, and every .1 mpg matters to them.  1 or 2 mpg might not seem like much to you, but it's huge to them.  It's also based on EPA tests, not real-world driving.
