The department is catching hell locally for doing this, I think we should help out, especially here in IL! The rifle is a Rock River Arms model.

I recommend that anyone that buys a raffle ticket request the AR15 ONLY if they win, and turn down any other rifle (Unless the subtituted rifle is another Homeland Defense Rifle AK, M1A, FAL, etc.)

In reference to purchasing tickets for this rifle, they are $5 each and they can send payment to:

QC Law Enforcement Officers Memorial
316 16th Street
Rock Island, Il 61201-8626

Please have them include their name, address and phone number so that I can fill out the ticket stub for the drawing. After that I will send them the other stub from the ticket(s) for there records.

The winner does not have to be from the QC area and the manufacturer (Rock River Arms of Colona IL) has agreed to take care of any transfer keeping all applicable laws in mind.

Look at this quote by the gun grabber in the article:

"To raffle off a gun used, more often than not, to kill innocent people, and particularly law-enforcement officers, is pretty misguided"

Unbelievable.

we would be winning a gun with an insatiable desire to kill people, oh my.....
Link Posted: 11/19/2003 8:27:37 AM EDT

``To raffle off a gun used, more often than not, to kill innocent people, and particularly law-enforcement officers, is pretty misguided,''

``One out of five officers killed by guns are killed by assault weapons, even though they make up less than 5 percent of all guns.''

``Only one officer in the last 44 years has been killed by a weapon of this sort in the state of Illinois,''

So which of these statements are you more willing to believe? I'll go with number 3. The others were made by some numbnut that doesn't know anything about firearms, gun laws, or much of anything else for that matter!

Where does it say an out-of-towner can buy tickets? All it says is you need a FOID card to win but we don't need those in WA so can I still take the prize?

Rock River Arms is handling the transfer, so there is no legal restriction as long as it is shipped to an FFL in your state.

Great responses from Det. Karzin! Talk about a worthy cause...
Link Posted: 11/19/2003 9:55:23 AM EDT

John Johnson, executive director of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence, said he was surprised to learn of the raffle one day after visiting the Quad-Cities to lobby for tighter assault-weapon restrictions.

``It's almost more than ironic that police officers would be auctioning off a weapon that is used in a disproportionate number of officer shootings,'' he said. ``One out of five officers killed by guns are killed by assault weapons, even though they make up less than 5 percent of all guns.''

Heck i thought all Iowans were good people?
Looks like some "plant" from a communist state moved in!

Gene Karzin, president of the Quad Cities Law Enforcement Memorial Committee, said the fundraiser is aimed primarily at fellow police officers who might like to have a rifle for use on duty.

If my name is drawn as the winner I think I would donate it to one of the officers to use!

I bet Tory would like to write a story about the generosity of a Texan towards a Police officer in Illinois!

I also bet the lib's would have a cow!

When I get home I'm going to see how much money I can squange(sp?) up.

If you send in a check, make sure you put a note in there that this is being advertised on AR15.com and that you support the police and their memorial.

Just put the check in the mail, bought two tickets.

I'm in.

This is turning into a Pre-Assault Weapon Ban assault on our gun rights. We have to really buy as many tickets as possible and vote with our dollars. We Want "Assault Weapons"!

John Johnson is NOT an Iowan. He hails from the Socialist Republic of Iowa City, where he works as a professional agitator.

This is one of the best ideas I've seen in a while.
Everybody Wins!
1. The organization raises funds for a worthy cause
2. Libs get their panties in a bunch
3. Guns owners everywhere win because of Det. Karzin has his facts straight in this article, making the gun grabber look like the dumbass he is.

Count me in for a few.

I think I can scrape together five bucks.
Link Posted: 11/19/2003 6:26:58 PM EDT
I’m in, too.

Just a thought, consider enclosing a SASE with your letter. It’ll make life easier on the other end, plus it’ll minimize the possibility of them making a mistake when mailing the stub(s) to you.

That’s certainly your prerogative. Frankly, though, I suspect it might cause more problems than it’s worth.

I'm in for several tickets. will drop it in the mail in the morning.

As soon as this was posted I sent an email to QC Police Memorial asking if out of state people could participate. This is what I got back:

Yes, out of state residents can purchase raffle
tickets as long as they meet State and Federal
requirements for possession of this firearm.
The FOID was placed in the website information as that
the raffle tickets were thought to only be wanted by
Quad Cities Illinois area police officers. Boy have
things changed.

Thanks for you support.

It sounds like they are getting a huge response...thanks to the anti-gunners and the scene they made.

Has anyone informed them that there is this thread on AR15.com?

Sweet, I'll be sending them a check...

Thanks SWIRE, I'll be sending $10 for two tickets today!

EDIT: ooops, wife wants a ticket too. Better make that 3 tickets!

I am sending in money as we speak. What a great idea - I think I am going to suggest this to our Sheriff!

5 please :-) hell even if I don't win at least it will be going to a good cause, and to prove the media wrong of course.

Check mailed for two tickets and i included a note saying where the link came from.

This is a perfect case of supporting the 2nd Amendment using the media to turn on itself.

I'll send $50 check tomorrow morning. Don't have it with me today.

OK, dumb question for the day: Where is the address you send your check and is there a form to fill out, if so, where?

Sorry, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning.

In the same vein, anyone remember that Henderson, NC college that raffled off a couple of rifles a few years ago? They expected maybe a couple thousand bucks, until the antigunners made a big stink, then gunners came out of the woodwork and they made over $13-$14K as I recall. I bought 2 tickets then and I'll buy 2 tickets for Rock City Memorial.

Thanks,

Merlin

Interesting!!

A couple of days ago they were using their street address. Now they’ve got a P.O. Box!

Kinda sounds like things are working like we hoped.

(Admittedly, I also think my chances of winning anything are becoming less and less - which is fine, that’s not why I entered anyway.)

I don't get it, is there more than one rifle being raffled?
Link Posted: 11/22/2003 7:40:15 AM EDT
The Illinois Council to Prevent Handgun Violence is upset about the AR15 'cop killer' being raffled and is offer to put up a shotgun or rifle in place of the RRA Ar15. That's why I suggested that we specifically request the AR15.

These folks need to know that their efforts to resist knuckling under to the gun control crowd is appreciated. Money sent yesterday along with an encouraging note.

I sent a check for 4 tickets today.
