Indiana is boring and uneventful for the most part. Hell, I wouldn't even visit.... especially blue state hipsters who constantly talk about how great their former state used to be. Stay home!

Have to agree - lived all over IN at one time or another. The Calumet region is the worst. Used to commute from Michigan City past Gary into East Chicago every day for work and knew even before I got to Gary that I was close because the coke ovens stunk the place up so much.

That was my face and reaction when I read "Columbus North."
Columbus, IN is one of the nicer areas in the midwest. View Quote |

Know why Indiana is so cool? Because Ohio sucks and Illinois blows.
The NW part of the state is a shithole, the rest isn't bad. I live in the Ft. Wayne area and other than being flat, boring and lacking deer to hunt it's pretty good. I have property in the southern part of the state, near French Lick and it's beautiful. |

My wife is a native New Yorker and we discussed the option of moving to somewhere upstate when we retired, but even with all its natural beauty and extensive public access for hunting, camping and fishing, we realized we couldn't live at near the standard we do now in Indiana. We will come and visit the Catskills where she grew up, and we will come to the Finger Lakes for IMSA and vintage racing at Watkins Glen, but we will always return Home to Indiana. |

If someone was moving to Indiana, I would encourage them to look at Indy areas (downtown Indy, Carmel, Zionsville, Noblesville, Danville) or far SE Indiana, Brown County, Bloomington, and South central within 15 or 20 miles of Louisville.

@TREETOP would say all of Indiana is bad.. because he hates snow.
If you want a nice peaceful area to live in Zionsville is really on the rise, good schools, etc. |

Gary, South Bend, most of the rest of the NW corner Kokomo Anderson Muncie Scott County Bloomington (Liberal cesspool) As some have mentioned there are still some parts of Indy that are utter shit. It's a nice place to live overall. I live south of Indy a ways. |

My grandparents lived in Gary. In Glen Park to be exact. Had a tiny house on Delaware St across from a now-defunct school.
We'd visit as kids. Broadway was always in bad shape. Over 25 years it went from bad to holy shit. There was a drive by one Thanksgiving. A couple stray bullets hit the house next door. Then one July 4th at night, we heard a girl screaming from the park. My dad and his brothers ran out of the house, came back an hour or so later. She was being raped and the guy ran. Even then the cops didn't want to be there. I've gambled at Michigan city. Still have family in Hobart. Have a couple cousins in Crown Pointe. Won't go back to Gary. |

I married a girl that was raised just a little west of Ft Wayne. She came down to Florida when she graduated from college in 1969. I met her in 1970.
We have been going up there almost every one of the 47 years we have been married to visit her family. Ft Wayne is a somewhat drab boring midwest city. The area around it is boring corn and wheat farms for the most part. A lot of dairy farms. Very flat. Cold as hell and drab in the winter. Summers are very nice. The people have always been nice and hospitable. Good place to live if you are German Lutheran. The people are mostly heartland America. My wife has no intentions of ever moving back. I have no intentions of ever suggesting that we move up there. |

My impression in Indiana was that Gary and Fort Wayne looked like hell - but were practically empty too.
I always got worse vibes off the Speedway area of Indianapolis - which is populated by industrial sites and occupied multi-ethnic ghetto housing. I saw people stripping copper out of a house in broad daylight and meth zombies wondering out into traffic. I was driving through it every day from downtown on an extended work assignment. After a week I booked hotels out in another area and stopped driving through it. |

My observation of Indiana traveling from Kentucky to Indianapolis;
Your interstate is falling apart, rough as shit as in now my wheel alignment is out bad, luckily I didn't bust a tire. Oh..they have this new thing called "four lane highways", in each direction and they allow people to drive 70 mph. Where do you keep the pretty women? The women I saw would make a freight train take dirt road. |

Its called a flyover state for a reason. Worked all over the state and would be happy to never go back. Flat drab shithole are the best 3 words I can use to describe it best!
