Meh. I don't really get it.

I understand what the meme is trying to do, but when you realize that the none of the Crusades really were that successful, these jokes seem rather flat.

The fourth Crusade in particular was probably the one event that did the most damage to Christianity more than any other event in the last 1000 years.

Not really, no.

Also, technically, there still is a Catholic King of Jerusalem. Naturally, it's claimed by Spain.

You were taught that "none of the crusades really were that successful."

However, that is a perspective crafted in the liberal democracies of Western Europe and the U.S.

In fact, the crusades were an effective response to the expansion of the Islamic caliphate - which threatened Europe for over a thousand years - even reaching the gates of Vienna:  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Vienna

Your view wrongly focuses on the Vatican's recruiting ploy: that the goal was to "re-take the holy land."  But the real goal was the defense of Europe.

It was Spaniards who killed the wounded Captian Röist in his home, in front of his wife.

The crusades, and the european warriors of the era, were successful in saving europe.  We were literally this close to losing all of europe for good.  The then-French actually came through and saved western civilization.  At least until now.  Now they have figured an easier way in.

That reminds me. Anybody got a line on how one goes about getting ammo blessed by a priest? I've got some holy water around here somewhere, could I just dab some on each round and call it good?

Holy water only works on vampires. Fill your hollow points with bacon, that will erace the Saracens from the afterlife.

How about, "Hey, Father, can you bless this ammo for me?"  It doesn't have to be on each round.

We need to get somebody to make us bullets with biblical verses microstamped on the bases.

My local church priest is kind of a tight ass liberal, and won't bless my ammo. Gotta go afield, I guess.
