I cannot find my original thread. But what are your opinions on Chiropractors?
Are they good or bad for your health!? |

Pretty much this, though even the red part is a bit dubious IMO. Quoted:

Surgeon that worked on my neck for ACDF surgery said whatever I have been doing for ~30 years keep doing it. (I have Scoliosis and have been keeping it in check as best as can be with exercise / lifting and chiro)
Here is the trick. Find a practice that is heavily into sports medicine with specialists and doctors on hand / attached to the practice. Do that and 9 times out of 10 you will have a very good chiropractor. |

Any truth to when they crack your neck that they can cause blood clots and these go to the brain? That is pretty much the only way I am aware of that happening. Not a doc though! |
| As a past personal injury attorney, I don't recommend them. They have zero credibility in the courtroom or with insurance companies, and disability examiners routinely discount their findings. A good one may give you temporary solace, and I have seen cases where a bad one can cripple an unfortunate for life. The risk benefit analysis doesn't justify reliance. |

I've been plagued with lower back problems for the past 15 years. I found a good chiropractor about a decade ago, and have since moved to a more conveniently located one (recommended by him). He new girl is awesome. She's heavily into sports-related treatment, and fixes me every time I screw something up.
Regarding the blood clot and neck manipulation thing: just request no high-velocity neck adjustments. |

I find the ones that claim to be able to relieve (but not necessarily cure) pain to be pretty good at what they do.
The ones that say they can also cure just about any ailment if they just adjust your spine a certain way...quackery. Chiropractors are a dime a dozen. The good ones are few and far between. Do some research on the Gonstead method of chiropractic. There are some videos on youtube and such. My guy is a Gonstead certified chiropractor, and after my first visit I walked out of his office a few inches taller. My spine is that fucked up. Or was. One visit got that much improvement. I started out seeing him a few times a week, now it's once a month for a tune up. I won't say I'm completely off pain meds, but it went from requiring a ridiculous amount just to function daily to a maintenance dose here and there on a bad day. I call it winning. He told me he may not be able to completely fix what's wrong with my back and neck, but he did say he could either get me completely off the pain medication or at least reduce my dependency on them. So far, he's living up to his word. Many chiropractors are quacks. This guy has made a serious difference for me. I'll find some pics of my pre-treatment xrays and post em up later. I have the CD they gave me around here somewhere. |
| I've had good chirps and bad, and the good will deliver what they promise. The bad will keep you coming back several times a week for "maintenance," will sell you whatever kind of side-hustle merch they have laying around, and will make you more of a customer than a patient. My current guy is awesome. I jacked myself up about a month ago, and he had me pretty well straightened out in three visits. I had one that I had to see because my insurance carrier preferred him; I don't know why, because he wanted me in his office three times a week. |
| It depends. If you have a good one, they are magic. If you find a bad one, they can make things worse. The chiro that I went to, plus an acupuncturist, kept me from having to have surgery on four bulging discs and a trapped nerve that was causing partial paralysis of my right leg. I have also been to one that believed he could cure everything from erectile dysfunction to baldness. YMMV. |

Never had much for them. Then I woke one morning with severe back pain. I went to a GP and got a shot, pills and X-rays. He didn't see anything and wanted to refer me to a surgeon when the pain would not go away. My wife suggested going to a Chiropractor after a week in bed I did. During that week I lost 10lbs and never slept more than 15 mins. I was in so much pain I almost threw up just sitting in the waiting room for a couple minutes. The chiropractor came out, went for X-rays, over to traction with ice packs, and then to an adjustment. Then I walked out.
I had to have several more adjustments and every 3-6 months have to go back, but it's better than surgery. He sent me for an MRI and I had a herniated disc between S1-L5. So do like mine, I do. |
| It worked so so for me. Everything just seemed to fall back into its original place just to be adjusted again. I stopped going after the guy adjusted my neck and I got a sharp pain like a pulled muscle or something. Around this same time that playboy model died after going to get her neck adjusted. My dads old boss from years ago died as a result of having his neck adjusted. |
