His Sunday Valley and live stuff before he hit it big is amazing. The new record was pretty underwhelming. To me Sturgil is like the Black Keys in that the more they are produced the worse they sound. Put them in a basement with a $5000 budget and they create magic.

Cody Jinks and Chris Knight are in Simpson's class they just haven't caught mainstream attention.

He is well versed in  Sturgill, I'm a huge fan of Sturgill but even a bigger fan of Whitey Morgan, there are plenty of acts outside of the Nashville scene that pay homage to the outlaw movement..RIP TVZ.

BTW, I saw Stoney LaRue on Saturday at The House Pasture Cattle Co in Concan (heart of Hill country), after floating down the Frio. It's hard to pack that much Texas in a weekend, but we tried.
