Post 545. So they make 5.45 ARs and 5.56 AKs. Are 5.56 ARs inherently more reliable than 5.45s? Are 5.45 AKs inherently more reliable than 5.56s? Or are the two cartridges so similar that it doesn't matter?
On a related note, are 7.62 AKs more reliable than 5.45 ones? ...or vice versa? I'm a 5.56 AR Colt fanboy and I'll probably never go outside of established norms as far as platforms and calibers go, but I'm just curious. |

magazines for 5.45 AR's are the most difficult part. but pmags with 28 rounds and the front leg of the follower cut down work fine for me.
I do have to say, mine is purposely over gassed with a heavy buffer to aid in feeding and extraction. only part that failed in about 6k rounds was the pin for the extractor. didn't even think that could break
I was way more into it as a round when I was getting 7n6 for wicked cheap. no more 7n6 no more care I have about 3500 rounds left I'm chewing through slowly. |

I have no experience with 5.45 ARs however in regards to the AK platform I'd say the 5.45 is just as reliable as the 7.62x39.
In regards to accuracy though the 5.45 really makes the AK platform shine. While it'll never equal an AR in accuracy the 5.45 AK is better than the 4-4.5moa 7.62 AK I'd post pics of my Arsenal SGL-31 but fuck photobucket

| 5.45 AK's are more reliable than 7.62aks. 5.45 and 7.62 AR15's have reliability problems mostly from Mags but also different pressure curves, hard primers, and steel ammo extraction issues. The AK has more primary extraction than the ar15 and a hammer/firing pin combo with more force to overcome the thick cups on soviet primers. The AK mags are also designed for the geometry of soviet rounds. |
