Inspection on a 1960 home next week. Previous owners had the Radon inspected electronically in 2012 and it registered 2.9 out of a max allowed of 4 for our state. So it was a bit below the threshold Does this Radon stuff go up over time? It's been five years, would it be worth it to spend the $195 and get it tested again five years later?

It can change over time due to quite a few different circumstances. It can even change with barometric pressure. Not a bad idea to get a test or reading over long time period. At least a couple of days, a week or more preferably.

Haven't thought of it that way, but yes, the world of Health Physics has been rather good to me. But while we're on the topic, you do understand that atoms are real don't you?

In the 200 and 300 range are real meters (amazon). I have one of each.

There is no safe level.  4 is the action level. Go for 0. Installed system myself, went from 12-14 to 0.40 average.

Sure.  I also understand exposure time.  I also understand most parts of the country don't have significant levels of radon.  It's not terribly different than termite inspections--companies couldn't begin to make a living with actual infestations, so they find "infestations."  Same with radon.  Where would the industry be without scare tactics?

There are scams out there for nutrition, weight loss, car repair, house repairs, investing, and just about anything else you can think of. Just because there are scam remediation companies doesn't mean that radon isn't real or that it cannot be a health hazard. You can have the testing and analysis performed by someone totally removed from the mitigation end of it. In fact, I would highly recommend it.

It's a legit concern but there are a shit load of scam artists out there.  When I lived in a small town we had One guy who was certified for that part of the state.  After he conveniently found my house to be at 4.2, he offered to give me a discount on his company installing the mitigation system!

Talk about conflict of interest!

How much?

You can get your answer from <at least most> of the threads dealing with vaccinations, as I usually find them--and post.
