I have my father's and uncle's (both Army, one an officer) Vietnam-era footlockers. Both are wood and one is painted a white that my mother thought would make a nice storage box. I remember seeing the same kind in surplus stores in the 80's
I started to wonder if the Army (or US military in general ) still issues foot lockers? What do they look like? Can you buy one? If they stopped issuing when did they issue them to? I used my Google fu but got some conflicting info. |
| Never saw one other than bootcamp. It was wooden, with a removable top shelf which was divided into 2 compartments. Seemed pretty well made since they survived being thrown across squad bays often. I once saw a very large drill instructor bound off one and spartan kick a recruit in the chest. 10/10 would recommend as a storage device, or indoor diving board. |

what the hell place in the Army issues a $300 Harding case?!
I have one but it was acquired in Iraq when an adjacent TOC to our HQ was literally throwing them in the dumpster. Gorrilla boxes are the most common, but they aren't issued. The Army doesn't issue footlockers anymore. |

This. Have about 6 of them in the garage along with a couple of conticos. Oh and not issued. You buy that shit yourself. Well, unless you are deploying and get the unit to buy them. Quoted:

http://i.imgur.com/kDTwOVb.jpg Well, unless you are deploying and get the unit to buy them. No seal. Not even remotely waterproof. 'Latches' in name only. Bottom corners will break or split. Hinge? Nah brah, "place where plastic will split leaving the hinge intact on either the lid or back wall." Need a thick piece of stiff bailing wire? There's a 2' section in a convenient plastic recess masquerading as a hinge. Wheels? Nope, broken plastic recesses where wheels used to be. Wanna lock it? Sure, but you'll just be locking 1/8" of plastic that even if a thief (er, non-government asset relocator) didn't want to simply snap away, could still just pry up a corner and fish everything out that way. The handle is absolutely worthless. Did you want to stack them? Oh sorry, the lid caved in and split. My last two are doing duty sitting on a shelf with lawn and garden crap in them. Both are broken. Neither will survive another move, much less a deployment. OP, make sure you read the reviews on that Hardigg 'footlocker'. It seemed pretty thinly built for the price point. I went with a Pelican Storm iM2975, no foam. Wheels and extending handle (+3 great handles on sides), should last forever, nice latches, recessed o-ring seal with pressure relief valve. Husky makes a 25 gallon rolling tool chest/tub, and a 50 gallon one. They're pretty good, but I don't like the latches. About $50-100 IIRC. |

| I regret never being able to acquire a deployer bag |
| This. Used the GPC to buy a few of those for our unit. Still have it collecting dust. Post deployment and a triton clean out, I rescued a shit ton of Pelican 1520 cases from the trash. |

When I got blow'd up, Dover sent my stuff home in eight footlockers.
Hardigg footlocker |

I've got a box.
Roughly foot locker in length 42 inchesĀ About 15+ high. Has butterfly closures on the ends. The lid is fitted to the box( box inner wall extends upward 1.5 inches rough and the lid is grooved for it to nest on it ). About 30lbs I'd say. I'll see if I got pics of it on this phone. Not mine. Closest I could find online. It's way bigger than this one shown. We use it as a table on our porch . Attached File |
