So I just drove out to the North store and bought three of these things.
Not going to lie these things are neat. Will post more when I get home Gotta be the only Daisy marked "U.S" and the Garand pickings were slim. I did find a 90,xxx serial in the drill rack but the receiver was severly pitted. For $380 I passed. Earliest receiver Ive ever seen. What a shame |
| My dad and I picked up a couple of those at the CMP North Store as well. They're a real bargain and the gateway drug into 10 meter air rifle. Be sure to check out the indoor 10 meter air rifle range (open seasonally, I believe). It's really nice, is run by nice people, and it's pretty cheap to shoot there. Big thumbs up. |

I'm the coach of a high school air rifle team. The kids are using Daisy 888s, but there are two 853s as the coach's rifles.
NICE guns. With the right pellet, they're super accurate right out of the box. I can regularly shoot in the 240s out of 300 on the 10m targets (NRA AR5/10s) with mine. They have pretty consistent muzzle velocities, and the sights are pretty decent. And, if you take the time to do the trigger modification, with an additional step of polishing the bearing surfaces of the hammer, you can make it a REALLY smooth trigger pull. |

I shoot the 888 version, it is CO2 powered, fill is bulk style, I fill it from a large paintball tank.
Accuracy is excellent, velocity is 510 to 540 fps with pellets in the 7.4 to 8.2 gr range. Got to get one of these CMP 853s. Have fun with yours, they are excellent rifles. |

Yeah, but their dirt-simple to work on, and parts are really cheap. Shouldn't be hard to rehab them for less than $50--and I'd be surprised if you spent that much. Quoted:

Spoke too soon Only one of them actually works I got two of them going now. I had an 1 o ring that fit one. The third was missing the o ring all together. I didn't functionally check them at the store. My bad The two that work punched thru a beer can and my fence during testing while I was grilling lol Attached File |

I won the Secretary of the Navy shoots 4 years in a row for JROTC with one. Â Try the regulation targets . The bull is the size of the pellet. Edit to add. Use the Ring in Ring sight for 10 meter and the sling helps a lot. Should be a bicep sling that attaches to front only so you can hinge it when cocking. I really really miss mine and have been telling myself to order one.Who knows you may have gotten mine Quoted:

Still a great amount of kit for $105! |

Call Daisy Outdoor Products ((479) 636-1200) and they'll get you the parts quick--like, Amazon quick. And I'd be surprised if it cost more than $3. And yeah...those pills move at 400fps. Our target traps have a plate of 10-gauge steel behind them. Quoted:

Cool. Â I graduated Purdue in '90 (old guy). Â Aeronautical Technology. Â Not sure what it is called today. Â I spent a lot of afternoons at Harry's--always tried for the window table with my buddies. Â Many pitchers consumed. Â ![]() |

I bought one for my daughter. No club affiliation necessary just order it/send the money.
The thing is, it's heavy, especially for a kid. It made to be a bench gun, but it doesn't operate like a bench gun. You completely jack up your shooting position to reload the thing. IMO - there's no smooth way to do it. But for $100, it's well built. There's a lot of crap on the shelf at Walmart now that's a waste of money. My kids really enjoy shooting lightly customized crosman 1322's because it's like a feather compared to the Daisy. |

I stopped by and picked one up last month. How the heck do you put the sling on properly? |

Here is your parts list for the Avanti upgraded sights. The dollars values listed are not accurate. Not sure what I did there? Well worth the few bucks. Google the Pilkguns trigger job. if you do not want or know how to do this, then also get the 888 upgrade trigger on the bottom.
I also attached the best pellets I have found so far. Under the cheap stain is a beautiful blonde gun. I stripped it and used the Truoil method to about 20 coats. The Tubbs 4-way makes zero financial sense, but it sure does look and funtion well. It really helps the balance of the rifle. 853.1 by Bert Mosely, on Flickr
