I have an older murray push mower and I'm looking for a part.

It's a flatish silver part that fits under the pull starter and attaches to the opposite side of the oil spout, then has a half circle that fits to one of the fuel/carb bolts.

Does anyone know what it does or is?

Did you try googling a parts diagram for your particular model?

You likely find it in the dipstick tube assembly section but without a model number, you'll need the engine model itself which will probably be used in numerous different brands. It should be affixed on the engine,  not on the deck.

Look into parts for the Motor. Not the mower itself.

How long can I run it without it?

When you said Push Mower I was thinking the kind I had to use on details in Basic & AIT. The faster you push, the faster the rotating blade spins (We don't need no stinkin' motor). Can't leave out that medieval Swing Blade landscaping device neither lol.

That won't stop it from running.

Best bet is find parts mower with same motor rather than buy new parts for a $50 mower.

Best time to find a new push mower is when you don't need one. I have a tractor, but for the tight sopts I use a push mower...i keep my eyes peeled for push mowers.. last one I found for free... like new husky with a Honda motor  the guy said didn't run smooth... went home changed out the fuel and she purrs.
