The article
Hooksett, N.H. — A man shot and killed a dog at the Hooksett Rest stop on I-93 Wednesday afternoon, according to New Hampshire State Police. Officers say a large dog jumped out of the window of a parked car when it saw a smaller dog walking by. Witnesses tell police a man tried to free his smaller dog from the mouth of the larger dog, but was unsuccessful. He allegedly fired a single gun shot at the larger dog. State troopers say that dog was killed and the smaller dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment, but did not appear to have life threatening injuries. |

It is hard to tell from the article - but if the small dog was really "in the large dog's mouth" then it could be a good shoot.
Having said that we just got a German Shorthair last year who is now 1.5 years old. 72lb, really awesome sweet dog that would not hurt a fly other than birds, which he wants to kill. But when he was a little younger he would rush at other dogs and jump on them to play. I've curbed that some. I've noticed there are some dog owners who are just pussies and/or dense and don't understand that dogs like to play rough. They're dogs. As long as they don't actually draw blood it's fine. So yes, it could be a good shoot but there're goofballs out there that think their dog is some china doll. |

| I think it was a good shoot, as I would do the same for my dogs. I also believe that the owner of the dead attacking dog should be held liable, for putting their dog in that situation, it didn't know better, it's just an animal that saw a smaller animal it wanted to eat or just fuck up. |

Dog's are property. Preventing your property from jumping on my property is entirely appropriate if I expect my property to be harmed by the action. Good shoot? Eh, maybe not. See above, dogs are property. |

Oddly enough, it would be illegal here.
Allowed to kill a dog in self defense, or defense of livestock. Not allowed to defend a pet with deadly force. Dog warden agreed that the law is retarded. Re emphasized the "But, you ARE allowed to use deadly force in SELF defense" with the Backstory: We had an incident with a dog across the street killing our rear neighbor's dog. |

I think the property argument makes it even more justified. It's not like they shot the owner. Think, if a neighbors tree (their property) is leaning up on your garage (your property) and damaging it. The owners of the tree does nothing it fix it, so you cut down the tree. Is that justified? "He was coming right at me officer, let me call my lawyer" would probably be the best statement. |

I don't disagree with anything you said here. My only point is the part in red - some dog owners don't understand dogs and think little teacup poodle is going to be harmed by what is essentially dog play.

Theses are dogs... Buy another one and move along.
Guy with little dog, is it really worth the risk to shoot someone's dog? Guy with the big dog, apologize, bury your dog, hit the pet store/pound, and hope the homo with the little dog doesn't rape you for vet bill. |

You're not a pet owner are you? People tend to get attached to living things which they raise for many years. Over 90% of us according to the poll would endanger human life to defend your dog... By that I mean, there are many crazy fuckers who would engage you in a gun fight if you shot their dog. If you can't keep it in the holster in situations like this you probably shouldn't carry. For me, dog fights are not worth risking human life. No matter how much you love your pets. Use your heads people of the 90%. Life is sometimes cruel, it has always been. Suffering because we have compassion for living things is part of the human condition. Torque556 thinks I have no compassion for my pets because I wouldn't kill someone's pet that was just doing what dogs do naturally. Really??? But dogs/pets are not people, not worth killing and dying for. When considering Gun play.... really it's "not about the feels". |

I see how my inlaws 100+ lbs Rottweiler looks at my wife's 5 lbs Maltese, there is no playing there. He wants to eat her like he would a squirrel. ![]() |
