I can't seem to find a compact one that will fit a compact sedan. I found the Trunk Safe by Snapsafe (http://www.snapsafe.com/snapsafe-trunk-safe.html) but it's 42 inches wide and my trunk will only fit something 37 inches wide. Ideally I only need something around 30 inches long that I can securely attach with a cable to the car.

Perhaps I could rig up something different to secure the gun (will be an AR pistol with brace). Anyone have any ideas?

All of those seem to be too big and made for trucks

Buy a truck?

Another may be the locking electric clamps if you want to keep an AR, flips a switch and they unlock.   Some LEO run them but I don't remember the brand.

This one might work for me, going to be a tight fit though and I'm going to have to put it in diagonally which is a little awkward. Wish they made one about 3-5 inches less wide.

Take a look at this one.  It's a very good brand and widely used by Jeep folks.  I have one in mine and it's very well made.

I tried the SecureIt Fast Box Model 40 (40 inches long) and just tried....too big to fit in my trunk

Anything around 36 inches or shorter?

I just decided to get a sub gun pelican case and run a cable lock through it

I use one that attaches under the driver or passenger's seats in a Jeep.  It will not fit an AR pistol, though.  However, it can fit a 1911, several mags and some more stuff.

I have a 14.5" pinned AR broken down in a 26" foam lined metal toolbox. It's locked and attached to my front seat with a cable lock. It's not the best security, but it doesn't look out of place in the cab of my truck either.

While my vehicle is much larger, this thread is relevant to my interests.

I purchased a couple of used LE versions (search Ebay).  Yes, it would be best to drill into the body of the car if you want to keep it secure.  Nobody cares about a few holes in the trunk but make sure that you don't drill into the exterior sheet metal!

This can also be placed on the inside of the trunk lid, depending the size of your car/gun.  Just hide the remote switch so others can't easily access.
