Not to be negative nancy, but if he did that, then why is he going to do anything different for HPA? (yes I know contact him and run the script of why HPA saves our ears, horses, dogs and the prey's ears before they are made into delicious bacon). But really, if he is cock blocking one 2A bill, why is he going to not block another that arguably has way more potential bad press? View Quote Ryan doesn't want to give Trump ANYTHING he could put in the "win" column. But Trump hasn't said anything about SHARE or HPA so I am going to stay hopefull. |

Rep. Steve Scalise is back today, they could have been waiting for his return before trying to push anything through.

Share doesn't have "hey, we're legalizing suppressors" right in the name. It also covers a wider range of issues that apply not only to us, but to Fudds as well. Cans aren't as much of a hot button issue as CCW reciprocity, which kinda gets into the whole "muh states rights!" territory, another can of worms. Plus, y'know, they can't have the peasants arming themselves. That'd be bad for the There are virtually no crimes committed with suppressors. So they don't have a leg to stand on, in that regard. Nobody knows what 922(r) is, and nobody gets "sporting purposes" bullshit but us. Libs aren't concerned with it |

Does nobody actually know WHEN the vote is? That would seem like important information? It's already been scheduled, we know that, but for when?

Does nobody actually know WHEN the vote is? That would seem like important information? It's already been scheduled, we know that, but for when? View Quote This particular bill isn't on the regular house legislative calendar, it has been added to the "Union calendar" otherwise known as The Committee of the Whole calendar. I assume it was added to this calendar because it has a tax implication, but not entirely sure on that. Basically this committee is made up of the entire house, but only 100 need be present for a quorum and it has some different rules. It still needs its second and third readings, this committee doesn't subvert that it just slightly changes the process. Here are all of the different calendars for yesterday. https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CCAL-115hcal-2017-09-28/pdf/CCAL-115hcal-2017-09-28.pdf As you can see there are no dates really scheduled (the dates printed under the bill number are the day it was added to that calendar), it is more of a list of things that they can schedule or take up. Which is why everyone is saying to pester Paul Ryan and Kevin McCarthy, because the speaker and majority leader set the agenda here. Here are the items just on the union calendar from yesterday. https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CCAL-115hcal-2017-09-28/pdf/CCAL-115hcal-2017-09-28-pt2.pdf |

I understand your logic, but it’s debatable. These Ds got enough votes to get in and stay in so far, and it’s not like passing SHARE is going to win them a bunch of votes. I mean... I’d be happy if Claire McCaskill voted for SHARE, but I damn sure am not giving her a vote either way. View Quote |

Sent Ryan a message. Also got a reply back from my local rep. While he is an R and has show in the past he tends to favor 2A rights. His reply was pretty generic.

Maybe Dems are getting smarter and picking battles they have a chance of winning with actual facts and not just fear? There are plenty of Dems in big hunting states that will vote for this bill so they can show their constituents how "pro-gun/pro-hunting" they are. It's also a HUGE help that Trump hasn't thrown his support behind the SHARE act or even mentioned it. It has a much better chance of passing if it's not one of POTUS' pet projects. As soon as Trump says he wants the SHARE act to pass, you can rest assured it'll lose at least 3 Republican votes in the Senate just out of spite. |
