[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Purple mattress (Page 1 of 2)

We are in the market for a new mattress, and I saw a commercial on YouTube about the purple mattress and looked into it. It looks pretty cool, and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one. It'll be about $1060 delivered.
Does anyone here have one? Are there any other mattresses that anyone would recommend in the same ball park? The purple mattress has a 10 year warranty and is made in the US from food grade materials, which are all considerations (not requirements)for whatever we buy. |
|
I almost bought one recently. But after alot of research it seems that there is a white powder they use to help keep the bed materials from sticking to itself and make the bed quieter. This powder is supposedly a food grade plastic. But just because its food grade doesn't mean you can breath it without harm. And it can leave the mattress (and their pillows) when you lay down on it. Some people have reported itching. Seems they sued a guy for posting on his mattress review blog about it.
I would have bought it if not for that issue. I ended up going with a ghost bed which seemed to get the same or better reviews. Been happy with it. Previous bed was a WAY more expensive Temperpedic rhapsody breeze mattress (firm) that developed soft spots. |

There is a hell of a lot more to the story than that, mainly the "mattress viewer" actually being a high up employee for one of Purples biggest competitors, lying about it, and running a shill blog(for the mattress you bought). ![]() Purple Mattress LAWSUIT over not-so-Honest Review |

Mattress firm is having a close out on tempur-pedic after ending their business relationship. I got almost 80% off and it's the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Unfortunately I'm in furniture sales and most of the mattress firm sales I see are bs. Tempurpedic is price locked. Unless you got a floor sample it was most likely the everyday price. |

My decisions weren't based on reviews from one place. I went all around the net to pickup the info I needed. Mattresses are difficult to research since comfort is subjective. |

If it were pink and marketed as the pink mattress would you feel the same? Mattresses are the biggest flim flam job going these days. There are a lot of mattresses and they all claim to be the best. Asking people about their experiences is a pretty easy way to get real opinions. |

| I saw their sumo video on Facebook, and it was kinda funny. The guy reminded me of that YouTube gun guy with the big glasses. The base looks nice, but over a thousand bucks for a frame that isn't motorized sounds ridiculous. I do think box springs need to go the way of the dinosaurs. I love my Sleep Number bed, although their customer service is about the worst imaginable (they sold me the wrong bed, then wanted to charge me $500 extra for the bed that they should've sent the first time, and I had to talk with about a dozen people before they accepted any responsibility whatsoever for their error). |
| Tried several different foam brands with the wife. Nothing compared to the cooling version of the temper in comfort (firm). It sucks the heat from you when you first lay down, however it gets warm after a while. I like to sleep cold and it's never been a problem. First bed I've ever looked forward to getting into. |

Just finished night 2 on the Purple. Â It is firm but not uncomfortable, but different. Â So far so good.
The mattress has been good for other activites than sleeping too. According to the wife unit there are some promotions for free stuff on Facebook right now too. Â Of course she told me after I ordered it. Â |

we looked at purple, but bought a ghost bed instead.
The first week we thought for sure we had made a grave mistake. It was terrible, alot stiffer than we had anticipated. We looked into returning it and the company basically wanted you to at least try it for 30 days. So we did. We actually really like it now and I sleep pretty well on it. We got the 3 pillow deal whatever it was too, they are nice. |

In my quest for a new mattress I tried and slept on several, and returned them.
Tried a Tuft and Needle, and Leesa. Both returned. I have been sleeping now on this for a year and its the best mattress I have ever owned. Hybrid mattress with foam and coils so you dont have that sinking feeling of a pure foam mattress. The support is great for a side sleeper. Alexander Hybrid |

Recently bought an amazon one for my cabin and it's better than my $1500 one at my main house. "Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Green Tea Mattress, Full". Wish I would have went with a queen or king which is only $290. (still might considering the price.) |

All of the comments so far sound pretty much like the ones I found about 2 months ago when our old sleepnumber bed died (one of the two air cells plastic connector broke and leaked). Â Had it about 10 years, and was considering a new one or replacing parts (would have required a new pump, etc.) I found info about the Purple. Â No mechanical parts to break and it was $1000. Â Took about 3 weeks to get it (not sure why) and I/we enjoyed it at first. Â After about 60 days or so we are returning it. Â Both wife and I wake up with lower back pain if we both sleep together. Â It seems to have gone soft in the mid section. Â Its ok when only one of us sleeps on it, but she complains about it even then. Â
Searching for something else now. Â We have a 30 day extension on the return. |

My wife and I just got a king size from Tuft & Needle. Love the mattress. |

Zinus from Amazon. Love it. King size was like $315. Liked it enough to buy another 2 for guest rooms.

Going on three years on my Sleep Innovations mattress from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/b?node=10063230011&lo=garden&tag=vglnk-c102-20 I'm a big fan. It's firm, very affordable, was fun as heck to unpack (just like the Casper, apparently, I heard Mark Levin talk about it), 20yr warranty, and made in America. Why anyone would pay more for another brand of foam mattress is beyond me. I see the others mentioned in this thread, Leesa, Casper, and Purple (did I miss anyone?) are in the thousand dollar range. Mine was $400, currently $337. If those brands even existed back in 2014 I had never heard of them, so spare me on their brand's reputation/quality/history, etc. |

Been sleeping on a Purple for about 7-8 months now. It was really tough to get used to at first and hurt my lower back, mostly because the mattress is thin and firm, something I have never been used to since I typically buy $200 mattresses. Now, I'm noticing that I wake up in the same position I fall asleep in at night.
The bounceback is instant and doesn't set in like some memory foam. Plus, I'll honestly say it's the best sex we've ever had on a mattress.
If you're a stomach sleeper, you may not enjoy it. If you're a back or side sleeper, you should really like it. |

I updated from a Queen size Waterbed matress to a Ghost bed about 8 months ago. I've been very happy so far, my wife at times wants to go back to the waterbed. I love the support it gives and I find it to be really comfortable. The downsides to it are it holds your body heat more in the summer. I liked being able to drop the temp on the waterbed heater and keep the bladder a bit on the cool side to help suck some of your body heat during the summer months. My wife hates how the Ghost bed is cold when you first get into it during the winter months. She really loved climbing into a warm waterbed in the winter. I think this is her biggest complaint. It was really firm the first couple weeks be it softened up after that. My Daughter is going to be needed a new mattress soon and she's wanting us to get her a Ghost bed Mattress as well so she seems to love it as well.

I think it would be helpful if people listed their weight with their recommendation. I am an industrial sized person and wonder if the beds will work for me too at a higher weight. Own one of each in King size 4 months each very very satisfied with purchase. I suggest you use a platform type bed, if you use box springs the beds are far too soft in my opinion. With a platform bed you get the right mix of softness and support. Zinus King I use in my master King I use in guest bedroom. |

Same here - T&N king. Had if for one week and like it so far. It feels average at best; we are getting ready to return it but not sure what to replace it with? Any recommendations? Are all the foam mattresses the same now? |
